My PS2 dropped on its lefthand side while playing a game. It will still turn on but will not load the game. It goes straight to the system configuration screen. On the off mode the turntable will still spin till stopped. On previous occasions it would make a definative sound when loading the game. It remains silent on the recent attempts. Is there something wrong with the lens? The turntable?

You might of had one of the wires connected from the TV to the PS2 damaged and may need new ones or just make sure that the wires connecting each other from the TV to the PS2 are well connected. My little brother use to drop my PS2 a lot too and that happened to me once, but it turned out to only be that the wire got pulled too much when it fell and it disconnected from the TV to the PS2 and I had to only put it in well.
possible optical pickup assembly defective, get some canned air and try blowing dust and debris from the drime assembly, this may give some limited playability, I the laser is defective it will need to be replaced and with the plastic rack gear located on the laser itself

This can occur if the Playstation has been knocked or dropped. On the slim version if you remove the screws underneath and remove the top cover you may find the the small drive shaft has been dislodged from the motor. Push it back into place refit cover and screws. This fixed my PS2 with this fault.
