Could you check and see if both the hot and cold hoses hooked to the back of the machine are actually putting out hot and cold water? If they are, it may be time to return the washer to where you bought it and get another. Be blessed.
Automatic temperature controls for different appliance manufacturers work in varying ways, but respond according to the control board response to the resistance of the thermistor. It is possible that your thermistor is bad; but what you describe is really a plumbing problem. The solution is to securely anchor your pipes; especially near the valves, so the abrupt change in pressure as the water is started and stopped will be dissipated into the structure of the walls, rather than allowing the pipes to vibrate against them.
You will need to get to the pipes with a torch or heat gun and melt the ice out allot of times when the pipes thaw out you may have busted pipes with long cracks running down the pipe. The best way to handle this is to turn off the water to your house and inspect the pipes I would go and purchase some heat tape and cover all the pipes in exposed areas (crawl space, attic, and basement) and let the heat tape thaw out the pipes. after about an hour turn off all your inside valves ( tubes, shower, sinks and the cold water to the water heater) then turn your water back on and watch the meter at the street if it spins then you may have busted pipes. 1- Turn off water at the meter by the street. 2- Thaw out pipes with torch or use the heat tape. 3- Close all valves in house including cold water valve at the water heater. 4- Turn water back on at meter and mark on the meter where the hand is now then watch to see if the meter is turning.
The heat tape will keep you from freezing pipes in the future.
You need good water pressure on hot for these machines to work, gravity fed systems may not be enough. I had to attach a pump to mine to improve the hot water pressure (UK)
Switch over the inlet pipes ie hot to cold and cold to hot and try filling the machine when switched to fill with hot water, (machine will fill will cold). proving the valve is opening and it is a pressure issue on you hot water.
There is too much pressure on the cold feed, reduce the pressure on the cold by partly closing off the tap on the cold.
Or ensure the hot feed is fully open and not blocked, check if there are filters inline - remove the feed pipes at the washer end and look into the inlet valves - clear if blocked.
The inlet valve is common to hot and cold water with only a small pipe to fill the machine, the cold water is being forced back up the hot water pipe due to the pressure you can feel the pipe cool down after running hot then go to warm, if hot water is flowing the pipe will stay hot, if not then cold is going up the hot pipe.

If you are trying to pump the water 7 feet or more above the floor then it will at the end of the cycle get air into the drain hose causing cavatation, the result when the machines stops is the water running back down the drain hose back into the tub and that is what causes the musty smell.
