I would say the back light went out if you can see the screen but very dark. Unless you haven't tried adjusting any video settings it may have.

My tv is showing to much red on screen

I don't have a lot to go on. If this is an older rear projection, this usually means the face of the green picture tube is dark (the picture goes purple-red) or there is too much red tube(excessive drive). This is a technical adjustment as it is in an area containing hazardous voltages. Adjustments will be a stop gap as rear projection TVs are all past their usable life span (About 8 years + with moderate use)

Hey own a 2003 hitachi model #46f500. love it a lot,but has a tint of red on screen. when dark movies are on gets real dark. when its day light on tv it looks great. info please

It sounds like the CRT tubes are weak which will not practical to replace them.

But try to clean the dust on tube first and if it doesn;t help do this...

Caution!
Risk of electric shock, focus block carries 4 kilo votls, do at your own risk or DO NOT do it at all.

Just try to adjust the screen voltage adjustment to brighten the 3 tubes from focus block, to do this you have to open the back then let the TV run for abut 10 minutes beofre adjusting, each tube has its own screen voltage adjustment, read the label make sure not to tuch the focus adjusment, do not crank up too much make it very slow or your TV will show retrace lines or it will shutdown.

good luck.

NEED HELP

This is called diffusion, it is caused when the power supply voltages do not match what the plasma panel requires. Unfortunantly this is not something you should do yourself, high voltage danger and possible damage to the tv if you are not very experienced with this repair. A technician can however read the voltages and adjust them to specifications and this will get rid of the dreaded red dot diffusion. Very common in samsungs but not that expensive of a repair. Hope this helps.

NO CALLS NEEDED TO AN EXPERT. THEY WILL CHARGE YOU FOR LITTLE ADJUSTMENT YOU CAN DO YOURSELF.
READ THE WEBSITE BELOW AND MAKE ADJUSTMENT TO THE SCREEN VOLTAGES TO CLEAR SCREEN, BUT DO IT SLOWLY. IT SHOULD CLEAR THE PROBLEM.

You need to adjust the panel voltages, adjust the VS voltage to around 186 volts, if that doesn't change it then adjust the V-Scan voltage down, turn the unit on and apply a video source to it, and while adjusting the voltages look at the screen and you should be abe to watch the video noise fade out.
