Question about Samsung HLP4663W 46" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Samsung HLP 4663W DLP TV

Lamp light flashed then tv restarts a few times then all 3 lights flash. No picture or sound.

I replaced the lamp with no success, then the ballast today. I stuck a voltmeter on the ballast power plug while it was plugged in and the tv powered on and it read 320 VDC so I assume the lamp, ballast and power supply are good. Is that right?

I did notice about a month before it quit working a winding noise when the tv was powered off after running for several hours. I take it that was the color wheel?

What should I check? I dont know what the DMD board does but I see it's brought up alot with this fault.

I thought it might be the color wheel so I checked the voltage coming out of the power plug from the DMD board and it was 0Vdc.

I was told it should be 5-7.5Vdc so I thing the DMD board is faulty.

If you have already replaced the lamp and ballast, to no avail, then it is time to take it in to a certified repair center.  Most will charge a nominal diagnostic fee.  My 61" did the same thing and it turned out to be the Light Engine (of which the DMD Board is a part).
If the problem were the color wheel, the lamp would come on for a bit until the color wheel sync couldn't be achieved and then it would turn off.  The all-3-flashing-lights problem is the lamp.  Here is a page from the service manual on the 3 blinking lights problem.
The Light Engine controls the ballast via a separate signal than the 320 Volts.  The voltage reading means that the Power Board is working properly.

If the capacitor on the ballast was puffed up or blown up you have to replace the lamp, ballast & SMPS at the same time. But if the ballast is not trying to fire the lamp it sounds like the color wheel is not coming up to speed. If this is the case, the set will not turn on.

I have a hlp 4663w that will not turn on checked the bulb it good. three lights blink that it .what is the prob

First. Lamps can look ok in the center and still be bad. Install a new lamp since I do not know when you replaced the lamp or if at all. Turn on the set and at the same time look through the Lamp Door vent slots to see if the lamp Illuminates. If so your lamp is ok and the Color Wheel is bad.

its the problem in the circuit board so resolder convergence ic's. if that does not work, change (STK-xxxx). they are located on the main power supply board.
there are two such STK ics on the board replace both of them.
also check for any blowned fuses on the board.

Samsung 46" DLP

HLP, HCN HL-S The Start-up Problem or/and
3 LEDs in the front blinking.

Unplug the set, pull out the lamp module (not all the way - leave it on the track) and push it back in.

Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.
