Question about Philips Lands Phones

My CD235 handset will not ring with an incoming call. Also it will not ring when I operate the paging key on the CD235 base station to locate the handset. I have tried the hash/music key button located under the 9 to switch the handset ringer on or off. I only get an indication Key note symbol appear on the hand set display.

I have reset the system as per the user manual. Having got Welcome Welcome displayed on the handset i pressed the paging button on the base station. The handset display lit up and displayed paging and there was a back ground noise in the ear piece but there was no ring from the handset.

  • tonybarber1 Jan 22, 2009

Tried that. The handset while on the base station again lit up and displayed Paging but no ringer other than a single bird like cheep. One thing I didn't say in my initial report was that I can answer the phone normally if I have picked up to intercept a the base station as in call monitoring.

  • tonybarber1 Jan 23, 2009

    I have tried that

  • tonybarber1 Jan 23, 2009

In answer to your last email, i have tried putting the handset on the base station for more than 5 seconds and pressing the paging button but still the handset is not ringing

If reset to factory settings and unplugging power and letting batteries drain out did not solve the problem , then the fone is faulty.

Contact Philips and see if they cover this as factory defect, in that case you may be offered a replacement.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, remove the rechargeable battery of the CD235 handset. The ides is to fully revert the unit back to factory default. Likewise, it may be necessary to unplug the base unit for an extended period of time. Reverting the baser and the handheld to factory default simulates a full hard reset. Unfortunately, it is also likely that memory and personal setting/configurations would also be erased. Thereafter, charge the handheld overnight and then proceed with initial set-up and configuration.

Should the above be not corrective, then we are looking into a possible hardware or software problem; both of which would require opening the unit for diagnosis. It may be to your advantage to seek the services of a qualified professional. Should factoring in the cost of repairs as well as downtime, you may have to reconsider your options and consider simply purchasing a replacement.

Pls post back result(s). Good luck and thank ytou for using FixYa.

Hi whether it is on main base..... For the handset, you can use the menu button to check the HS Setup settings. For the answering machine, you may have pressed the side button that turns it off. It would say "off" on the lcd if you did that.

Is there a volume control for the ringer, on the handset? Ours get's turned down quite often, and I 'm not sure a reset will reset the ringer volume.

Hi there,

for clarification on thisCD235 handset that has a problem on the ring mode when someone has to call you.
1. did you hear a dial tone from CD235 handset, ( presence of the dial tone means that the phone line from the box to the base and to your external handset has no problem.)

2. try do a self testing of some ring melody to the handset ( presence of a sound / ring means no problem to the handset system speaker).

3. do a self checking of the each handset that happen to be connected and shared into the same phone line.

  • doing this, you can use your celfone, or somebody on your house/area that has a celfone/phone unit that can make a outgoing call/s, dial / call the phone number on which all the hanset was connected on that specific phone line installed on your place.
Let me know, if all of this prefared double checking has made. Update us on what happen on a detailed sequence in event.

Good luck!!

I would suggest you to reset the settings of this phone to correct the problem, since you have a communication problem between the base and the handset..

If that is the case a recommend you to check for any software update update for this phone and if still the same problem after the update a repair or replacement if the unit is still under warranty will be the best option...

No and we have two phones and neither of them can hear the incoming call yet they can hear us. Nothing happened to the phones they were working and then they did not.

Not likely defective, just need to be reset. If I understand correctly, no ring with an incoming phone call, but the intercom feature works fine. The ringer on the handsets is either "off" it will say no ringer or the base station is not communicating correctly. Intercom is handset to handset. Phone calls pass through the base station first. Of course, check the base unit: power on, phone line plugged in, antenna attached. Then try the phone line to check for dial tone with a regular, "old" analog telephone. If you are using these with a PBX, you must have an analog line installed.

One of my hand sets for my philips CD235 phone wont ring

The handsets have a set-up menu which allows you to determine the
loudness of the ring. find it and adjust the ring loudness to suit you.
If the handset still does not respond to incoming calls, you have a
problem with the handset. If so, follow the instructions on the
guaranty for a repair or replacement of the handset.

Can't hear phone ringing

Adjusting the Ringer Volume (From the Uniden manual)

You can choose from four ringer volume settings (off, low, medium, and high) separately on each handset or the base.
  1. With the phone in standby, press ArrowUp or Arrow Down on the handset or VOLUME + or VOLUME - on the base. The handset or base sounds the ringer at that level.
  2. Use Arrow Up on the handset or VOLUME + on the base to make the ringer volume louder.
  3. Use Arrow Down on the handset or VOLUME - on the base to make it softer or turn it completely off.
  4. When you hear the ringer volume level you want to use, stop pressing keys.
  5. The handset or base will use the new ringer volume starting with the next incoming call.
  6. If you set the ringer volume to Off, the handset or base won’t ring.
  7. Other handsets or base will ring according to their individual settings.

Handset won't ring

You need to reset the main base and make sure the ringer volume is turned all the way up. Disconnect the power from the back of the main base, press and hold find hs key while reconnecting power until you hear long beep. Should reset base and handset.

Uniden 5.8Ghz phone.

You need to reset the main base unit. Unplug the power from the back of the base. While the power is disconnected, press and hold the delete key while reconnecting the power. Wait for a long beep tone. When the display shows 88 or P, press play button one time. If you have a phone without an answering machine, disconnect the power from the back of the base, press and hold find hs button while reconnecting power.

Phone rings, but once answered its not possible to hear a voice.

Similar issue - brand new phone - but incoming calls (skype or landline) would ring - and then nothing, and outgoing calls the handset would just reset.

The handset would just lose signal constantly (less than 2 meters from the base station).

The phone shipped with the latest software - but eventually I reinstalled it - no change, then de-registered the handset, powered everything down and re-registered the handset and that *seems* to have done it .....

So
1 - reflash / re-install latest software from philips website (even if the phone already has the same version)
2 - de-register handset (follow instructions)
3 - unplug base station and remove batteries from handset
4 - turn on base station, put batteries in handset
5 - re register handset (follow instructions in manual)

and that seems to do it.

No ring on handset

It may have lost the link to the base unit. Make a note of all the personal details, stored number, etc., then reset the handset. Do this by pressing the spanner button until the display changes, then press and hold the 'R' (delete) button until the handset resets. You'll have to set it up again, but at least it will link.
Spanner then 1 for ringtone, CID for volume.
Spanner then 2 for keypad bleep, 1=off, 2=on.
both cases press spanner to confirm changes.
