You can also go to Acklands (or grainger in the USA). They have all the parts just not listed in the catalogue.

You have a couple choices, first Makitausa.com and type in your model number for a parts explosion and also Ereplacementsparts.com and again type in your model number, the second one has a lot of parts that are not in stock so I would go with Makita. Let me know if you need anymore help

I overheated my Makita 9557PB angle grinder. I replaced the brushes. Bearings seem ok: the motor assembly turns freely, smoothly, and quietly. The running motor is slow, with a loud "grinding" sound.

Measure the value difference in Ohm between the carbon brushes on the armature there are some collectors in the commutator give an other ohm value if compared to other collectors in the comutator of the armature . if measure turn the blad very slow so the collectros can be positioned to measure the ohm difference. range to measure 0-200ohm on ohmmeter.
If only one brush made trouble ( much more sparking ) then the electric field is not in ohm value balance, control always if there are slide contacts used they are solid. on the field. Measure the difference. between the 2 field coils of the electric field . if its also different replace allways the field and the armature if thats also have problems (BUT DON,T FORGET to order a new drive gear for the armature and new brushes. !!!

Slow,smell burned

Sounds like your brushes are used up. Take the brush caps off on each side of the grinder handle, if the carbon is 1/8" long or shorter they have to be replaced. (Makita Part #191938-1) If you overworked the tool (put too much pressure on while grinding) it's possible the armature and/or field overheated and burned out. They are Makita Part #517301-4 and #521621-0 respectively. You need a growler to check these items to see if they're shorted out.

check inside for any loose connections plus check the brushes. if like you say it is smoking it could be a trip to the wheelie bin for that one.

Grinder ceased working. I pulled it apart, found broken wire but had to pull fully apart to correct. Grinder now spins discs off and arcs badly at brushes. I think I have connected wiring wrongly. Can I...

you can try going to Makitatools.com and downloading a breakdown for this tool. If it arcing badly at brushes there could be a wiring problem or damage to the armature, check the wiring first and also the wheel spinning off might mean that you are running in reverse. did you take the field out of it and if so it might be in 180 degrees out. Let me know

How do you change the grinder disk. I have the tool with the two pronges that slide into the nut but the wheel keeps spinning. There must be a trick?

On the top of the grinder there should be a button. hold that in while turning the disk (please have the grinder unplugged while you do this).
The button wil drop further in when it finds the notch in the gear. This will lock the spindle, allowing you to remove the retaining nut.

My makita angle grinder is making a crackling sound I replaced the brushes, but it is still making the same sound

OK one of a couple things the brushes night need seated with a stone for this purpose or the armature or field is bad. Remove the brushes and look at the commutator thru the tube and see if there is a bar or 2 that has discoloration or is raised. Let me know if I can help further.

Armature problems

Unplug tool and then remove the brush caps and brushes, at the front of the tool are 4 screws that need to be removed after removing them you might have to pry the gearcase from the motor housing and then it should just pull out if there is no problems with the field having been hot and melted. Let me know if you need further assistance

Something wrong with the armature

If the armature is shot, it will spark a lot where the brushes are touching the armature comutator. To remove the armature:1 Remove brushes. 2 Remove 4 screws holding the gear box. 3 Pull away gear box from the body. The armature may come with the gear box or not, it's only pushed in, so you should have no problem to disassemble it. If the armature stay in the grinder, use two skrew drivers to pray it out. You may not see anythink wrong with it, but it may be no good . That's Makita special, they don't make it good as they used to. The price for new grinder is about $130, for armature $65. field $40

Can't get grinder to turn on. Checked brushes, cord, trigger/switch. Any suggestions?

Did you check continuity to the field/brush holders. They have a garter spring that sometimes became overheated and broke. It seems like you have done everything else. Let me know
