i believe the audio device for this model is located on the modem bus.
if you install the modem driver first then the machine should display the "found new hardware" wizard. DONT USE THIS.
ignore the wizard and proceed with the sound driver install then reboot the machine.
that should work providing you have installed the drivers in the correct order
If the drivers dont install after downloading from support.dell.com go to My computer>>C drive>>Dell>>Drivers>> You'll find a folder Rxxxxxxx in the folder. There might be many so you need to look for the one you have for the sound drivers. it will have a folder with a Microsoft update for Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio. Install the update and try installing the drivers again.
