The pilot light works, but the heat will not turn on. We traced the thermostat and it runs to the heater, but it is not connected to any breakers. The wall heater worked for about 3 weeks and now not at all. We don't need a heater often here in Fort Worth, but it is getting ready to have a cold snap again and we need it to work.

It sounds like the gas valve has some debris in it that is causing internal relay from opening without some help. I would check and clean electrical connections on gas valve and make sure you are getting at least 24 volts to gas valve when thermostat iscalling for heat. I would also actuate gas valve several times in a row to see if it frees up any. If that doesn't help you probably need to replace gas valve. I think you will need a new valve but it's worth a try. Good luck. Thank you.

It sounds to me like you have some small dirt or rust particles inside the gas valve that are hindering the valve from fully opening. Before I spent the money for a new gas valve I would make sure that the burners were clean and also clean pilot orifice. Replace thermocouple if it appears to be burned or deformed. You can turn thermostat up a little bit at a time and try tappimg on valve body to see if you can get it to free up. Unfourtunatly there are no repairable parts insid the gas valve so if it comes to that you will need to replace the valve. Hope this helps you and thanks.

Bad gas valve most likely. He did right by replacing the pilot generator first.

The pilot goes out when the heater cycles

The thermocouple is not working correctly. sometimes you can clean the soot build up from it and it will work again. sometimes they just need replacing. the thermocouple is what the pilot light flame heats up when you turn on the heater. when the thermocouple gets hot it sends a 20 to 60 millivolt signal to the gas valve to activate the gas flow to the main burner.

Pilot won't stay lit on mr heater vent-free propane heater

if it is direct vent chances are it has electronic pilot.. it does not have a standing pilo and match size upt. if in fact it did have a buning pilot there is a part called thermocoupling. it will look like a 1/8 in. copper wire coming out of the bottom of the gas valve and goes right to the pilot. anywhere from 10 in. to 20in.. unscreew nut at gas valve pull out from pilot area [ it just clips in at pilot] take it to any home center

The pilot is on,, but gets no heat

Well she oughta light off with the green knob turned up all the way.
This valve has a temp control mounted in it. Once the pilot is lit you move the
knob to ON and if it is cold in the room she oughta fire off. If it don't then the valve needs to be replaced. If yours works on 24 volts and you have the knob on the on position and the thermostat is on and the transformer is working then the valve oughta fire off. If it don't then the solenoid is bad and the valve needs replacing. IF you have a pilot generator then your gas valve solenoid work off of voltage being produced by the generator. That type system is very simple. a 2 wire thermostat on the wall makes the circuit and the generator powers the whole she-bang. If the solenoid is open on the valve OR if the thermopile / pilot generator is weak then when the themostat comes on the pilot simply goes out. Let me know you need further assistance.

Where I do I light the pilot light on my Cozy Wall Heater? I know it needs to be lit somewhere on the bottom of the unit but I cannot find the spot and my heater will not turn on. I am a senior and not...

in front of the burner it is next to a copper tube(black if it has been burned)! it angles a little towards the copper tube! u turn the knob on gas valve to pilot then hold down and light hold for one minute then turn it to the on position (u might have to push down slightly as u turn the knob) make sure u have thermostat to the lowest setting before u light the pilot so it won't turn on while u have your face too close to the heater then turn your thermostat up to desired temperature when it is on the the on position! Good Luck!!

Replaced mercury thermostat w/Honeywell CT87K - doesn't work!

You need a specific thermostat for a Wall Furnace it is a Millivolt Thermostat and not a 24v standard thermostat....usually it will work anyway however if the powerpile (generator produces millivolts from the pilot light) is weak it may not be producing enough...or the Pilot light may be dirty and lazy...won't produce enough millivolts ...or you can have bad or dirty contacts or connections....or a combination of any of the above.....a 24v Thermostat and particularly a non-mercury thermostat has too much resistance in it for a millivolt system....as your Wall Furnace (other than the fan) runs on less than 1 volt

Williams wall furnace, top vent.

I've replaced a Williams wall gas heater non-electric. The thermostat is connected right and mounted on the wall. But, there's a thick black copper wire on the side of the furnace tagged thermostat. I don't know what to do with it? Where do you connect this wire? When it touches the top screw of the three screws running vertically(where the other wires are connected). The burner lights up and stays on, even if you play with the wall thermostat. Touching the other two screws doesn't do anything. Now, the manual talks about connecting it to the venting wires? Extra wires coming from the top or maybe somewhere else in the wall? I've left it connected to the first screw, ran the heater. But, it never turns off? Any suggestions? Thanks
