Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Hello! My GE Dishwasher (Model # GSD2000G00WW) will not fill. The water supply is flowing properly after cleaning out some lime and mineral deposits, but no water is going into the machine. If the water flow valve needs to be replaced (?), is there a local distributor in the Cincinnati/Blue Ash area in Ohio (zip code is 45242)? Thanks! Steve Brodbeck

I need to know is the water not going in the machine at all in other words when you switch on the machine with the tap open can you hear the water flowing,if you can here the water flowing check the hight of you drain hose if it is too low down you will find that you end up with a syphoning effect as the water goes in the machine it gravity feeds out the drain pipe if the drain pipe is low lift it up (about half way of the machine is a general indicater) if you cannot here water flow and the tap is open and machine on it could be your inlet solonoid,it may also be your pressure switch if the machine was tlted it may get water in the pressure tube in wich case you will need to locate the pressure tube and blow it clear if there is water in the pressure tube the pressure switch will think the machine is full, worst case is the (timer or pc board) wich ever your machine has is fualty but this is seldom the case

Possible:
1. Dirty line strainer, causing low water pressure/flow. Turn off the water supply to the dishwaher, open the strainer cap, and clean the screen.
2. Low water pressure
3. Excessive Lime or mineral deposits in the wash/rinse system. You may need to delime the system.
4. Water temperature is below 110 degrees.
5. If equipped with a booster (heater), and more than 8 minutes pass with the water temp still below 110 degrees. Heater may be bad.

GE fridge 1999 model. water started tasting funny. found black stuff in a peice of ice. Water in rest of house seems fine.

Hello there,
When your water starts tasting funny and you can see some kind of particles in the ice, then it means the water filter is dirty and needs to be changed. Try to get the water filter replaced and the funny taste will stop.
If you are having some kind of lime taste or mud taste, or lime deposits or mineral deposit, is simply means you will have to replace the water line and reservior.
Hope this helped. All the best Elect_Comp

I have a samsung dmt300 dishwasher that is displaying a low-level water error and was wondering if there is anything i can do myself before calling a technician

I would remove and examine the wash arms to see if any of the holes are plugged with food or mineral deposits. Clear any food with a paper clip. If you have mineral deposits, remove the deposits with Lime Away or CLR cleaner. Hope this helps you.

1. Make certain the water supply valve is turned on. Check the inlet hose for any kinks or bends in the line that could prevent unit from filling properly. Check drain hose for proper installation. If water drains immediately, unit will display an IE Error Code.
2. Check the water supply valve and make certain that it is turned on and open fully or this code will display.
3. Check the inlet valve filter for buildup of mineral deposits. If the inlet valve filter is clogged it will restrict water flow is restricted into the dishwasher, resulting the IE Error. Clean filter with small brush to remove any accumulated mineral deposits that may have accumulated.
4. If inlet hose is kinked, water flow into the dishwasher, is restricted resulting the IE Error. Straighten any bends or kinks in the inlet hose. If the drain hose is not installed properly and the water drains out of unit, this could cause premature draining, which results in IE Error Code. In this case it will be necessary to reinstall the drain hose according the instructions in the installation guide.
5. If the water pressure is not 20 - 120 psi, water will not fill properly. This will result in IError Code. If water pressure is too low, it may be necessary to call for service.
6. During winter, parts of the dishwasher that are installed outside may freeze. Melt the frozen part by soaking a towel in warm water and wrapping it around the part. This should allow the dishwasher to operate.
7. If the unit is not leveled properly, the IE Error may occur. Use a level to check the sides and top of the unit. If the unit is not level, adjust the leveling feet in the front and back. Use the leveling kit packaged with the dishwasher. Check mounting brackets. If one is tightened more than the other, it will offset the cabinet.
* Note: To adjust leveling legs on the front, use a 1/4" square drive wrench. Turn clockwise as needed to adjust level. To adjust rear legs, use a standard Phillips head screw driver. On the left side rear, turn the screw counterclockwise to lower the leg and raise the rear. To adjust right side rear, turn the adjusting screw clockwise to lower the leg and raise the rear of dishwasher. Using a level while adjusting the legs will help aid in proper leveling.

Water will get hot but not flow to the mixing basket

Most likely your system needs to be de-limed. All water has a certain amount of dissolved minerals in it and when heated those minerals will precipitate out into a white, crusty material. Often this material will clog up the works of your coffee maker.
In order to remove the deposits, you have to increase the acidity of the liquid within the coffee maker. The easiest way to do this is to drain the water and then fill the maker with about 18 ounces of white vinegar that you can buy from your local supermarket.
It may take some time before the lime deposits dissolve and you may even have to use a wire probe to carefully remove any blockage of any of the holes that the water has to flow-through to get through the system.
After you've got the lime removed and the unit is working properly, run some clean water through the system and clean any external parts to make sure you don't get vinegar flavored coffee.

Dishwasher will not fill to capacity for a wash

Replace the water supply valve under the sink and water supply line to dishwasher. (See attached picture)
Over time minerals deposit in the valve and restrict the water flow to the dishwasher.
This is especially inportant on todays water saving units.
Many people replace an old dishwasher and hate the new unit due to a white film left on dishes.

Although you may have paid for a professional installation a new shut off valve is almost never replaced even though the waterline may have been at an additional cost to you..

Dishwasher not getting water

Check the solenoid on the water valve.

The water supply connects to the dishwasher water valve, two wires are connected to the solenoid. An OHM meter will tell if this is good. If good, set meter to volts and see if 110 is getting to the solenoid, you will have to turn the timer to the point where water should be coming in.
