Question about Pioneer CD & DVD Burners

1 Answer

Compatibility wth DVD and burning speed 4x instead of 8x

I have a DVD recorder Pioneer DVR-520H.

DVD's 16x are written at 4x, and also some 8x are written at 4x.

do you know if there are dvd brands that are written at 8x?

do you know if there is the possibility to update the firmware? in the Pioneer Internet site there is not a firmaware available for this machine.

thanks in advance for helping me

My machine writes at 8x (7 minutes for a 2 hours film) with appropriate DVDs, e.g. Verbatim 8x; this is for sure, I did it. The problem is that Verbatim 8x are not produced any more.

Other MCC-02RG20 Mediacode disks I tryed were not so good (Mediarange) as 50% disks failed.

    thanks

The write speed of your machine is 4x. It will only write at 4x no matter how fast your DVD blank is. When your write at a slower speed, you get a better quality DVD picture.

I only can write with 4x maximum while dvd could

DVD burners will only write to the maximum stated.

Also if you are using 4x DVDs then that is all they will burn at without often giving errors when used.

Trying to burn a 4x DVD at lets say 16x can cause burn failure or data corruption.

Cd's on the other hand can burn at lower speeds than they are stated.

To burn DVDs at higher speeds your burner needs to be capable of that speed

Low burn speed

I had the same problem before upgrading my RAM. Seems video burning software like nero are RAM hogs; if you do not have a large amount of RAM then it slowers the burning speed down to a crawl.[ BTW I didn't get maximum burning speeds using nero on a Windows Vista computer until I upgraded to 2 GB RAM] Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer.

This ahs to with speed of recording of the CD/DVD try reading CD/DVD burnt at a lower speed like 16x.

Most DVD writers has low maximum reading speed as compared to CD-ROMs.

You can try burning a CD on it and then reading it, if reads then it shows that other cd were burnt at faster speed than it can read.

If it read lower speed CDs then you can just add an additional DVD/CD-ROM just to read faster speed disks.

Problems recording DVD-R 16X

Try this download page to update your firmware from 25/10/05, so if you bought your writer before this date maybe this will work, otherwise buy 8x discs. http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/firmware.htm#710 The faster the discs are burned the more chance of errors there are, you should write at slower speeds for better quality.
