My printer is stating that the black ink cartridge cannot be recognized, but the ink is full. When I place the cartridge in the printer the red light goes on indicating it is in properly, but as soon as I close the cover the printer rejects it saying it cannot be recognized

Open the printer and remove the ink. Clean around the ink carriage and
the under the ink with alcohol and a cotton swab. Pay special attention
to areas with copper contacts. Keep
in mind too that some printers will not print, even with full ink, if
the exact type of ink it expected you to have installed is not right. Double
check that the ink is correct against the manual or written
instructions inside the printer using the number not the shape or color of the cartridge. Not every cartridge that fits the
printer necessarily works.
If it is a genuine canon ink cartridge. You can sent it back to canon and they will replace it free shipping and charge. I had a similar problem. The y will send you troubleshooting steps first. Regards Mc
Take the black ink cartridge back to the person who refilled it. The Microchip that's on the cartridge was not reset properly that's why the printer is returning that error.
You can try some steps before you take it to them to verify it. 1: reseat (take out and put back in) the cartridges into place 2: buy another black cartridge just to check if it will be recognized by the printer, if it does recognize it we know the cartridge is defective. If a new cartridge is also not recognize, start to check your warranty option with the manufacturer...
