Cables are either shorted, or deck is putting out too much power for input on amp... many new head-units will put out up to 7v on the output jacks (RCA) the amp may only want to see up to 1v will need to consult head-unit manual for adjustment of outputs.

Your power supply is toast. Might be repairable at a electronics repair shop. But for an Earthquake amp I wouldnt waste the money.

Amp on "protect" mode

Hi, what you need to do is unplug all the connections to the amp. The amp goes into protection when the circuitry over heats.\
First decrease all your gains to minimal volume.
Connect your 12+V, remote, and ground.
See if the protection light comes on then.
Next plug in your RCA cables.
Check protection light.
Then plug in your subwoofer cables.
See if you are still in protect mode.
Hopefully everything works alright again.
Just slowly increase the gain to see what the cut-off is. Make sure you aren't dropping the ohmage too low on the amplifier. Check manual for correct wiring and such.

6 channel power 1000watts earthquake amps red is on

This is normally a grounding problem in the amplifer. If you have a volt meter, check the voltage at the ground of the RCA input on the amplifier. If that voltage is anything more than just a few millivolts then you have a problem in the pre-amp of the amplifier. You should also only connect or disconnect the RCA jacks while the system is off. Otherwise you can get a loud popping noise that can damage the amp or the speakers. Check that voltage on the amplifer RCA jacks with the head unit not connected to the amp with the RCA cables, then if that is OK, check the RCA cables coming from the head unit. You may even have a voltage on those RCA's coming from the head unit, in which case, you have a problem in the head unit. You will be looking for a DC voltage, if you have anything more than just a few millivolts (0.070 +/- DC volts) on either of those then you have found the cause. After that, it will require a technician to be able to troubleshoot the amp or the head unit to determain why you have that DC voltage where it should not be.

Let me know if I can be any more help,

Dave

Directed audio 800a amp the protection light keeps blinking

1. Check your grounds. (including grounds for your stereo)

2. Check to make sure the power cable you connected to your car battery is properly connected, and not coming into contact with anything metal.

3. Make sure you are using proper fuses.

4. Check your connection from your stereo to your amp, and your amp to your subs.

Bass sounds flat when volume is increased

probably your power is too short, increase your gauge wire, and your ground wire of the amplifier has to be shortly as possible, and the positive has to be enough to support peak power, you can also put a big capacitor on the positive wire to give some more power while the bass peak.

The most likely reason for it to go into protect is shorted output transistors.

Sub power hadling capacity

Yes. If the rated power is 380W and the Max power is 1000W then it will handle it. Subs fry when clipping occurs. Clipping is when the amplifier is pushed past its capabilities and the output to the sub gets "dirty". The better quality the amp, the safer it will be on your speakers. It is also important to remember that the gain control on the amplifier is NOT a volume control to boot the sound, it is only to match the output from the headunit to the input handling of the amp. Cranking the gain up too much WILL CAUSE CLIPPING.

Subs will go off the wall with bass, but not in tune with music.

hi, first disconnect the rca input, then switch on headunit and if the amp produces a constant bass thump it then means it has an internal fault. if the amp idles quietly then replace the rca cable, or try connecting the headunit lineout feed directly to the bass amp, in this way you cud find out if your fault is coming from the headunit or the equaliser. cheers
