Sounds like your batteries are near dead, enough juice to run the light and shutter control but not enough for the motor drive (which the control system knows it must use when film is loaded). The MB-21 lights not coming on is the battery test -- two lights means batteries OK, 1 light means low battery, no lights means exhausted.

Where is the shutter release button on a Canon AE-1? I am trying to load film in the camera, and the shutter crank "thing" is stuck. do i need to release it with a press of a button???

Did you actually mean shutter release or shutter advance? And to load the film, you need to pull the roll winder upwards. While you pull the winder upwards, it would have a tuck voice and then the back cover would open up. Make sure you have wound the entire roll before you open the back.

I just put new batteries in my N65. I haven't used it in a while but it appeears to be working proper, ie the lcd comes on and indicates full battery and the view finder symbols are nice and bright green...

What I'm thinking is the shutter and or the aperture ring is lazy. Move the aperture ring up and down several time see if the little ring next to the the camera body is responding quickly to the change.
Do this without film in the camera.
What I'd suggest is setting the camera in "M" mode aperture at F8 manual set the ISO at 100 and the shutter speed at 1/60 shift the camera into manual focus. The shutter can be in AF-S (single frame with each depress of the shutter). Trip the shutter and listen to it work do that a few times (maybe three) then set the speed at 1/125 do the same test listen the shutter should sound faster. Repeat the test at 250 then 500 then 1000. Then start backing down to 1/60th again, listen to the response. In all manual mode the shutter has to fire it it isn't or the speed doesn't increase and then decrease then the shutter needs service.

Nikon 18-55mm AF-S/ VR lense shudder?

I believe you're hearing the VR in the lens adjusting. Try turning the VR off and see if you hear the sound. If not, then you have a normal operating lens.

Overexposed photos??

The view finder "going black" on an SLR is caused by the mirror being up, which is also when the camera is actually taking the picture! The mirror sends the light from the lens to either the viewfinder or the sensor. When it's down, the light goes to the viewfinder and you can compose the picture. When you press the shutter release, the mirror comes up, and light goes to the sensor. In a film SLR, there was a shutter just in front of the film that controlled the amount of light that hit the film. In your D80, it's a combination of the mirror and the electronics that set "shutter speed".

What is happening when you get these white pictures is that somehow your settings are holding the mirror open far longer than it should be open. When you turn off the camera, it drops the mirror automatically. If you are in S or M, it's because you've set your shutter speed improperly. If it's doing this in Auto mode, then there may be a problem with the exposure meter or the lens.

If you describe more about when it happens (shutter speed settings, Auto or manual mode) I can probably tell you if it's your settings or the camera/lens.

My camera's view finder will not show anything, it is black.

Your winder gear is toast, get a digital camera and save on film printing cost.

Nikon FE film winder jammed.

Is it the viewfinder or the film advance lever? If the viewfinder is not showing any image and the shutter is not getting released, then it could be a problem with the mirror box.To confirm, remove the lens and see if it gets released. To align the lens, you have to take it to the nearest service center (or repair shop).

You probably need to take the camera in for repair. It sounds like the film transport is not connected to the shutter/mirror cage ***'y.

Have you tried taking a picture on either the 125X or B mode?

If you are able to take a picture on the 125X or B mode, then it probably isn't the mechanical part of the camera, but the electronics. If so, try putting some fresh batteries in the camera.

If neither if these work, then the camera might be past its prime.

Take care & Happing Imaging!

Check your mirror lock up switch. This function is used for long exposures locking the mirror in the up position to reduce vibration before the shutter is released, but you will not be able to use the view finder.
