sounds like you had a short on the console and it caused a capasitor to overheat and cause the melt to occur.

Was it the back of the harddrive ( on the side of the case) or the main console case?
How long did it work until the failure?

    Thanks

It is a quite sad phenomenon but it is likely that someone has put it in an oven in order to fix it like in this youtube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKHMXgChTOA

Do NOT do that it is the most stupid thing you can do to a console and it will not fix it properly anyway.

The previous owner might also have tried to reflow the console with a heatgun without detaching the harddrive and that why it might have melted slightly as well.

I still sometimes get consoles by people who did that and screwed their repairs up so do yourself a favor and fix it properly if you are getting a hardware error, you can get detailed information on fixes that work permanently on http://xboxexperts.com

Kind regards,

My son bought a 2009 fat boy and I just noticed today that his break light was staying on . I took his hand break apart enough to look at the pin and it makes no change to the light when pushing it in and...

Usually when the brake light stays on, it\'s the front brake switch that is bad.

It usually gets damaged if the front master cylinder is installed incorrectly, breaking off the little bit that works off the brake lever.

A quick test is to unsolder the switch, and touch/untouch the two wires and see if the brake light functions (goes off/on).

Swatch diaphane second hand stuck

Hello, a week ago the small second hand (not long chrono second hand) got stucked and my irony swatch just stop moving. Although the chronometer could be running if started... The small hand just didn't move.
I tried different tricks, like removing battery, pull out main wheel and use chrono buttons to reset arms. Etc.
Today I noticed that when turning the wheel backwards a couple of times (one or two hours back) the little hand moved one second back... Pushing wheel back to On possition made the small hand move forward one second and get stucked again.
Then I did this procedure a couple of times, at some point I turned the wheel back for a while (may be 5 full turns) and noticed the small hand moved more than one second (5, 10, 15 seconds backward)... when I noticed it was moving freely I pushed wheel to on position and noticed the small second hand was running normal.. I hope it works for some of you. Greettings from Canada

since it's secondhand, you may want to go onto Ebay or check in with your local Game Stop and see about getting a replacement battery.

Stop watch hand

You have to reset your watch. Pull out crown to first click and try to move stop watch hand by pressing one of the pushbuttons. If this do not work, push the crown back in. Now pull out crown fully tto the second click and try to manipulate with pushbuttons again.
After resetting stop watch hand to 0 push the crown in completely.
Job done.

External hard drive makes sound like second hand watch

You have two motors in a hard drive. The spindle motor that spins the platters and a head position motor. In your case the heads can't tell where the tracks are, so they keep swinging, until they hit the stop. This gets noticed, the controller retracts the heads all the way to the center, and it tries again. What you are hearing is the heads hitting the stop that keeps them from moving off the platters completely. Your drive is almost certainly toast. If the data is really important, you can send it to a disk recovery place, who will charge you lots of money, and send back the data on CD. If it's not, you buy a new drive.

HARD DISC

If you bought it new then back up any files and take it back to the shop. If it's a second hand unit then you need to immediately back up to disc or pen anything you want to save. You are being warned that there is an issue with your hard drive. If this fails then you will lose all your information and computer won't fire up until you fit a new hard drive and install an operating system (if you actually have one). Once you have safeguarded your files it might be worth checking if your laptop is running too hot, which can damage a hard drive, is the fan switching on. There are programs free to download that can test the temperature.

I have a Sony Vaio UX380 Micro PC. I am extremely happy with this little computer, but I had just a few questions that I would like to ask. (1) I have seen sites post RAM for the UX for sale; is there...

google that model with the added word(s) memory upgrade and chose what you want. (2) again find out what upgrades for the hard drive keeping in mind that you will need to reinstall an operation system, Get yourself a usb hard drive to back up all the files you wish to keep. (3) that question depends on how much money you want to spend and what you use the laptop for. upgrades for laptops are somewhat limited but more memory and a larger hard drive a good ways to go (yes size does matter with hard drives)

Xbox 360: disk drive

Your system is fine, the disk is a different story. By moving your Xbox 360 the drive does some funky things. The disk probably has some deep grooves around the egde. In future, dont move the 360 or backup your xbox 360 games with http://www.everything4360.com Support Rich
