Question about Carrier XHB123D X/Y Series Heat/Cool Air Conditioner

Zoned system one zone not working

I have a carrier 4 zone system and one zone displays " - - " in the current temperature space. The book says this means the sensor is bad in that zone. The result is no heat in that zone. This happened once before and I got it to reset but this time it won't. Has anyone had this problem

I hit the reset button on the main unit and that reset all the sensors. It was so easy but when I called Carrier's customer service line they told me there was nothing they could recommend. Not very good customer service. Avoid Carrier brand if possible.

Our Carrier Comfort Zone II thermostat, which has 2 zone readouts, currently shows a temperature of 00, as in zero zero, on one zone. That is the main zone for our home. Zone 2, for spare bedrooms, etc....

This .pdf file may be of help to you:
www.brivis.com.au/.../Carrier%20Comfort%20Zone%20II%20Owner's%20Guide.pdf
Perhaps you could get some help from Carrier Support here:
http://www.residential.carrier.com/support/index.shtml
I noticed they have an option of talking to an engineer, and perhaps they could explain how to reset or set the unit.
Hope this helps.

Zone is set to deliver AC but nothing comes out of the vents

Your duct system has dampers that separate the four zones. Even though all four sensors are working and call for a/c, you may not be getting voltage to the damper motors, which open when there is a call for a/c, and close when the call is satisfied. In certain parts of your duct system, you will find small orange or gray boxes with wires going into them. Those are the motors for the dampers. When there is a call for a/c in all four zones, check to see if you have power going to those boxes. If power is present, the motors are bad or the damper itself is stuck. If power is not present, check the master zone control.

You didn't get a Carrier tech. Carrier technicians only work on commercial equipment. Residential applicaitions, installation and service of Carrier residential units are done by dealers. They are not carrier owned but get buy the product at discount get training and get to show our logo. You can't fix the boards, they have to be replaced. It sounds like you have a Gen II VVT system. You can get the part via Totaline stores or a distributor. You will need to know how to readdress the other controllers to operate correctly. Use WWW.Carrier.com.

I'm not a fan of zoning but it sounds like they don't have the ducting done correctly. There has to be bleeder trunks installed in the unit because your are taking a unit that is designed to cool or heat a particular square footage and make it cool or heat a smaller area. This makes the unit way too big for the job you are asking it to do. If the ducting is improper, you are going to have issues like this. A lot of contractors will not admit that the ducting isn't correct due to the cost to correct it. I personally think (my opinion) that 4 zones are a little excessive. Sounds like you really need 2 units. It's hard to tell from my point of view since I'm not there to actually see what is going on. I would have a couple of different contractors come out and give you an estimate to fix the issue and then tell the installer to come and fix what they say is wrong.

That sounds like a very efficient system Gratz. You can try a reset by throwing the breakers off and back on and check all your micro fuses on boards and zone controllers. GL!
