  1. Boot from windows XP CD
  2. Windows will detect the hardware then loads some driver etc. and finally asks u whether u would like to install a fresh copy of XP or repair an existing one.
  3. At this point enter the recovery console by pressing 'R'.
  4. Once the black screen of recovery console is there, windows will list all existing installations.
  5. choose the correct installation (if the only O.S. on ur pc is XP it will be the first choice--- select it by entering 1)
  6.  type 'disable themes' - without the quotes of course.
  7. windows will show a confirmation
  8. type 'exit' to exit the recovery console
  9. remove the XP CD from the drive and boot as usual.

Hi,

Follow the steps given below to resolve the issue.
1. F8 at system startup.
2. Boot to safe mode with command prompt.
3. Perform a system restore.
For instructions on how to perform a system restore from Safe Mode with Command Prompt use the link given below: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304449

If this fails do a system restore from Recovery console.

Download servicepack 3.
Be sure not to have Norton installed.
If so use special Norton removal from symantec.
Never use Norton with SP3. Get Avast for instance.

How to change windows themes and icons?

You will need a 3rd party program to install custom themes in XP.
StyleXP and Windowsblinds are just a couple you might look into.

No sound

I can't find the specs on your board..but try installing or downloading the audio drivers for you board model if you haven't already. Use the original disk if you have it, or do a search for the audio or sound drivers for your type motherboard. After you install the software and reboot, if an audio device is present it should find and install it.
