I UNDERSTAND THE SYSTEM YOU HAVE HAS A BROKEN SWITCH,

WHAT IS OS, ANSWER IS OPERATING SYSTEM.

YOU HAVE LOST THE SETTING IN THE CMOS DUE TO A SHOCK, ITS BEEN DROPPED, THE BATTERIES ARE OLD AND NEED TO BE REPLACE.

*************CMOS ENTREE:******************************** FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS ON SCREEN WHEN FIRST TURN ON MACHINE F 8-12
ONCE YOU PUSH THE F KEY A FEW TIMES OR UNTIL IT BEEPS AND IT MAY TAKE A WHILE TO GET THERE.

CTRL-ALT-ESC AT THE SAME TIME MAY TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO DUE IT.

SOME CMOS'S OUR SOFTWARE DRIVEN IBM AND MAC SYSTEMS.

SOME MAY REQUIRE ADMINSTRATION APPROVAL NAME AND PASSWORDS

THE JUMPER JUMPER LOCATED ON THE MOTERBOARD RESET SWITCH********** NOT THE RESET SWITCH FOR THE C/P REBOOT
THIS JUMPER WILL HAVE 3 JUMPER AND MOST OF THE TIME THE JUMPER ARE SET TO 1-2 AND TO RESET BOIS MOVE THE JUMPER TO 2-3 FOR A FEW SECONDS THAN PUT JUMPER BACK TO 1-2.

IF IT HAS THE CIRCLE ROUND DISC SHAPE BATTERY JUST REMOVE IT AND PUT IT BACK THE WAY YOU FOUND IT AND REBOOT THE COMPUTER.
***********IT WILL ALLOW YOU TO ENTER THE BOIS TO SET IT UP.***********************

IN THE CMOS KEEPS RECORDS, CDROM, DVDS, FLOPPIES, HARD DRIVE SIZE,TYPE ,MAKE, MODEL, IF IT FORMATED,OR NOT.

IN COMS HALF WAY DOWN IN CMOS AUTO FIND HARD DRIVE
OR
HARD DRIVE SETTING IF YOU KNOW THE TYPE 1-44 DRIVES
OPTION SETTING
PUT NUMBET LOCATED UNDERNIETH THE HARD DRIVE IN THE CASE MOST OF THE TIME IT IS ON TOP OF HARD DRIVE

LOOKING TYPE, MODEL #
LOOKING FOR THE FOLLOWING.
WRITE EACH ONE DOWN INSIDE THE CASE SO IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO AND HOW.

# OF CYLINDER 1024 AND UP
# OF HEADS 1-16
# OF SECTORS 1-63

DMA YES UNLESS YOU TOLD SOMETHING ELSE
LBA YES
TRANFER MODE ;STANDARD UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT TO PUT
F10 TO SAVE
Y FOR YES
ENTER
REBOOT AND SAVE EVERYTHING TO CMOS

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

What is the problem when uyou switch on the IBM

You probably need to replace the BIOS battery. This battery is small and on the inside of the laptop connected to the motherboard. It stores the BIOS settings, date and time. If this battery becomes worn out then it will cause your issue. First try and press F1. Navigate to the last tab and select to restore defaults, then save and exit. If the computer boots up fine but the next time you use it the same message appears then you need a new BIOS battery. Alternatively your HDD may be damaged if it cannot find a boot device. Check your HDD is recognised on the boot menu by pressing F12, select it and press enter and your OS should boot. Hope this helps,

emove the CMOS battery, POP will be vanished right away. But after that, you have to enter BIOS to set the time/date, otherwise laptop won't boot.

ibm thinkpad does not boot My IBM Thinkpad 600 (Type 2645-310) stops and hang during bootup. What happens is: 1. LED test, then green Power on and orange battery/charging 3. RAM OK (Responds when I take out /put in different amount of RAM and displays correctly. I have 128 + 32 removable, + 32 internal not possible to take out) 2. I can hear fan, CD drive and evt diskette drive. If I use diskette drive the LED wil give 1 blink, if I use CD drive it will give 14 blink. 3. No cursor seen, but this is displayed: Upper left show the amount of RAM present: 196032 KB OK Upper right IBMs logo in blue; IBM Lower left shows "ThinkPad(R)" in large letters and red dot over "i". 4. Then a "rrrrrr" sound from the loudspeakers after a while, this is in fact 28 clicks shortly after each other. Then nothing more happens. Diskette and CD drive is OK (But can not be used because bootup is never finished). I hear CD speed up and then down again but nothing more happens. No effect in booting with bootable diskette or CD, "Live Linux" CD or else. Backup battery OK (3V) and if I take it out I will be asked for correct date and time when Power on. I can then use keyboard or TrackPoint to set date and time, and after that hangup at the usual point. Starting without battery, HDD, CD drive and removable memory sticks makes no difference in symptoms. Pressing and holding F1 before and during poweron and startup (in order to enter BIOS and selftest) has no effect. I could not find help on IBMs home page, but maybe I did not look at the right place. Is somebody able to help me?
