Has it just started doing it?

if so have you changed/installed anything?

Check the actual card to make sure the fan is still spinning on it

other than that check the caps on the card make sure they are not blown...

Let me know...

PNY GeForce GT440 crashes every time I play a video game.

Hello try to renew the graphic driver from here:

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

By selecting the model, and your windows system.

You can also use the auto find function.

By installing a small bit of software.

Maybe your power supply is too small for gaming performance
consider to upgrade that, if the driver update does not work.
I suggest a 500 watt PSU, so the graphic does not runs out of power.

Good luck

The graphic card usually crashes due to over heating. Keep the gpu cool. you may use a pedestal fan as well.

ATI x600 displaying checkerboard pattern when playing games

Sounds like specific overheating problems that only affect certain game engines or certain functions in them or is may be memory leak that only happens when computer has been running programs for a period of time.

No One Lives Forever uses Lithtech 2.0: Talon engine, however it was later revised to Lithtech 2.2 whose fixes were included in the latest NOLF patch. Make sure you have the latest patch for NOLF.

Freedom Force uses NetImmerse engine.
If possible try if you have same issues with another games with old NetImmerse engine. See list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamebryo#NetImmerse_games

Far Cry uses CryENGINE. Far Cry was actually developed by Crytek as a technology demo for Nvidia display adapters and when the company saw its potential, it was turned into a game. As a conclusion I would say this game is very likely optimized for Nvidia display adapters and issues may be because of ATI display adapter drivers.

If nothing else helps try somewhere with nVidia. ATI has a lot of issues with old games released before or near year 2000, because of its drivers and they do not seem to correct driver issues on old games. When looking nVidia driver release notes you find more often game specific corrections or maybe they just document them better.

My computer freezes when gaming & the graphics becomes corrupted

As a gamer myself, most issues I had like those ended with me up/downgrading my videocard drivers if it wasn't something like a fan/heat problem. Nvidias' newest driver is the best I've used to date, though I have heard others have had problems with it. get a benchmark utility, if you haven't already. try out some of the other drivers available, if your comfortable doing that. go to nvidia's site and let thier engine detect the proper driver. Best of luck ..

Geforce 8600 gts drivers crash and recover moments later

Sorry for the bad news, but you've seem to have witnessed a graphic card meltdown...

During games, cards get quite melting hot! If there's a little problem or inefficiency in the card cooling system (Active Fan or Passive Airflow) Your card will simply melt a few little contacts, enough to produce what you saw or even worse!. (Basically just in the graphic 3D render portion of the board, thats why you could still see windows some times but Aero (3D) started glitching later).

If you wish, you can verify this at your own risk opening up your case and placing your finger on the free corner of your card and bending/arching it a little to the sides when windows or your games are running... It may restore contact at the melted away points for a few seconds for you to see, but won't repair it, you'll maybe see how images get better or worse with the bending, proving the meltdown situation.

Return your card if you can or buy a new one, before the crashes mess up your windows. Buy a new one from a good manufacturer and clad with an elaborated cooling system, if you plan to run 3D heavy games, stay away from the weird branded, cheapest or heavily discounted cards are usually the ones most prone to fail this way. If you go ATI, buy ATI made cards. If you go NVidia, buy BFG for example.
