Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Kenmore Gas Dryer does not dry clothes.

I have a Kenmore gas dryer (about 15 years old), 70 series, model#76722691 76722. The dryer runs and blows air, it tumbles but does not blow warm air and does not dry the clothes. I replaced the "thermal fuse" but it still does not blow warm air.

If this is the electric version then after 15 years you probably need a new heating element, they are not difficult to install and are not terribly expensive as a DIY project.

It's a gas dryer. I'm going to check the igniter to see if that's it. The parts store said it could be that or the coil valves.

good luck! that project is not bad either.

After I got the front panel off and started getting to the ignitor I found out that one of the wire posts had broken off of the sensor. So, my problem was the sensor. I replaced that and all is well. Thanks for your input.

SOURCE: Maytag Gas Dryer MDG308DAWW doesn't blow hot air, no clicks heard

Look at the bottom of your front panel and see if you can see a screw on either side about 2-3 inches from the very bottom edge of the front panel. If so take them out and pull the bottom away far enough to disengage the top of the front panel from the top panel. If this works for ya. then now you have it openened, if not repost me.

SOURCE: dryer heats, tumbles clothes, blows air out exhause vent, but wont dry clothes

what type is this electric or gas? have you removed the exsaust from the wall and ran a load like this? if you have heat and this is an electric dryer it sounds like you have a blockage in your house. if the dryer runs fine without the exsaust attached then that is your problem. let me know

SOURCE: Kenmore Dryer won't heat up

thermal fuse is bad. replace fuse. clean out vent duct. thermal fuse usually blows when there is restricted air flow over heating element.

SOURCE: Kenmore Series 70 Gas Dryer not getting hot enough

The first thought I have is about the gas supply. If you had natural gas at the old house and now have propane or visa versa you need to change the orifices in the dryer as gas flow is different. Also, if the gas line some how got a kink in it when the dryer was being installed that too would restrict the flow of gas.

Dryer says cloths are dry but they are still damp. Is there a sensor I can change ? This is a kenmore elite he4

what's the model number?if it's gas you could have bad gas coils, the coils will work for the first 15 to 30 minutes and then no heat, when the coils are failing they will work until they get hot then stop working, when they cool they will work again, also when was the last time you cleaned out the dryer and vent line?if it's gas you should do this once a year, electric once every two years, you have to clean out the duct that the lint filter slides into, vac out the cabinet where the motor is and if the vent line is a long run from the back of the dryer to the outside i use a leaf blower to blow out the line.you can remove the bottom panel, start the dryer with clothes in it and after 15 to 30 minutes see if the flame still lites if it's gas,if it doesn't change out the gas coils located on top of the gas valve.

Kenmore 70 Series

The most likely cause is a bad ignitor part number 279311. It has to glow to open the valve and ignite the gas. You should hear a loud click when you first start the dryer. That tells us there is voltage to the gas valve.

Make sure the vent is clear and air movement is good through the rear vent.
Ten,
Check and or replace the flame sensor and the gas valve coils.

Kenmore 70 Series

You probably have an open thermal fuse, the dryer will run in some cases and not heat, Just moving air across you clothes will dry them however it takes forever.

If you are electrical or mechanical replace the thermal fuse yourself if not call someone you trust, you can purchase thermal fuses on line from Sears.com just do a parts search for you specific dryer.
