I would suggest that you go under device manager (by right clicking on My Computer) and right-click on the device that has the !. Choose to uninstall that device.

Now, the reason most times for that is that you may have put the wrong drivers in initially, but then weren't completely removed, so the next time you used different drivers, they didn't completely work properly.

Restart the computer.

Go back to the Sony website, and download the drivers needed for your wireless card. And try installing it again.

I would suggest altogether to delete the WinXP partition and instead install Windows 7. I say that because windows 7 has many of the baseline drivers and for most computers of 1.5 years+ you don't have to install many drivers for them at all; they all come built in.

I hope some of that helped.

Please Rate. Thanks.

This may be a simple need to load all the required drivers in the correct order. After a Windows XP reinstall, the correct driver order is: Notebook System Software Intel Chipset Utility Video Driver Audio Driver Network Driver Wireless Driver Touchpad Driver Quickset Utility DVD and CD burning/playback applications
Ensure that all the drivers have been installed, if in doubt, do a system restore to the day the XP install was done, then load the drivers.

I reinstalled Windows XP to my computer and now i cant get the internet. There is a yellow question mark and exlmation point next to Ethernet Controller and it has a code 28 error.

You should have had 2 cds that came with your computer. The 2nd one has all the drivers on it. Install the drivers and your problem will go away.

If you are connecting wired to the router, you should be able to just connect an ethernet cable and the pc will pick up an ip address automatically, and presto - you have internet.

If this is not happening, please check device manager and make sure that the network card is being detected properly, and is not in an error state (yellow circle with an exclamation mark). If it is, you should download the correct driver for it on another pc and install it :)

When you say 'complete system restore', I'm assuming you reinstalled windows from scratch. If you did this on a brand name pc, with the restore discs that came with it, the network card driver would have been installed as part of the setup routine. If you are using an add-on wireless card, then the driver would not have been installed when you reloaded windows, and you need to get the correct driver for your version of windows. If you reinstalled windows with a regular OEM or retail windows cd/dvd then I'd bet it's drivers for the network card.

Hope this helps!....let me know if you get stuck.....

This is likely what's going on.

Can't connect to internet with built in wireless

Do you have Windows XP, and did you install Service Pack 3? If so, you may need to go to the wireless card's manufacturer's site and download an updated driver (or if not available, reinstall the original driver). SP3 puts in a file that is incompatible with many wireless cards.

Intergrated 3G

If you have the restore cds for windows xp home, the drivers from that will still work in windows xp pro. There should be a separate cd for drivers. Try that first. You can also try Windows update, sometimes it will find drivers.
