Most VCRs of the last 10+ years are programmed via the remote box. If you have the matching remote, there should be a button which brings up an on-screen menu where you can select various functions such as setting the time/date, tape speed, channel programming, and the unattended recording you desire. Take a look here for an online manual:

I dont have the original remote and i need to record a security camera. none of the channels will record. i have to yellow, white, and red cords hooked up to the vcr in the front ( line in 2)

Generally on VCR the up & down channel selectors will take you to that socket. It will be called "AV" something (perhaps front). It depends on how many aux sockets the vcr has. Once selected you just need to press record.

There are a few things you must do in order to program a recording. One, you must make sure that the vcr clock is set. Two, the vcr must be set on the right date, as does the recording. Three, make sure that the daylight savings, AM/PM, etc. settings are saved accordingly. Also, if you have the operating manual for the vcr, you could check it for exact program instructions. I hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck! Sincerely, Der Strom

I cannot program the vcr to record i just do not know how to I can play tapes or wath the disk but cannot recore

make sure the tv is on channel 3, and the vcr also on channel 3 -if trying to record from cable or satalite. then make sure tape is rewound all the way. do a test by hitting record on vcr. let it record for a few minutes. rewind it, then just hit play. Dont change any channels until you are ready to record the program of choice. After this test. And recording is successful. Rewind the tape again. And change the channel to your choice. Hit record at time of or go into menu of your vcr and set up a time to record shows.

No sound Problem - Philips VR550 VHS VCR

If your pre-recorded tapes also play without sound, then check the scart lead is in straight.

If not, then it's more likely to be a dirty audio head.

Try a VHS head cleaner tape.

VCR won't record at a set time

Check that the clock on the machine is set to the correct time and date. Check am/pm.

This problem is usually caused by incorrect time & date.

I have the manual. Are you trying to record something live? if so:

1) Turn on both the DVD/VCR and your TV.
2) Switch the input selector on your TV so that the signal from the player appears on the TV screen (this is usually something like 'input 1' or 'line 1' and so forth)
3) On your remote, set TV/DVD-VIDEO to DVD-Video, then press SELECT VIDEO to control the VCR. These buttons are at the upper left hand corner of the remote controller.
4) To record from a cable box, turn it on.
5) make sure the tape is longer than the total recording time.
6) insert a tape into the VCR.
7) press CH +/- on the remote to select the channel or line input video source to record.
8) select the tape speed SP/EP (SP provides better quality, EP provides three times the recording time as SP)
9) Press the record button to start recording. The VCR display will display the message REC.

Vcr timed recordings

I'd be pretty certain that every VCR made these days (and of the last 10-15+ years) can be set to do a timed recording. They can be set for a one time recording, weekly or daily record. Whether used with a cable/satellite box, or outside antenna, you must ensure proper hookup. I'm not real familiar with recent cable/sat receiver boxes, but older ones had to be set to the channel you wanted to record, as the VCR will only see that channel. On older cable (no cable box) & outdoor antenna systems, a VCR could tune in and record any channel, while you watched another one. Anyway, check the capability of the cable/sat box, and follow suggested hookup. You will likely need to set the box to the channel you want to record before you retire for the night.

Record one channel while watchign another

Ouirkygirl, a TV\VCR combo can only watch TV on a channel & record THAT channel. If the monitor is connected directly to the VCR then u should be able to RECORD what u see. Do you have a separate channel changer [buttons that say up\down channel ?] on the face of the VCR portion? If so, then u should be able to change the channel ON the VCR, record that channel, then change the channel ON the TV, .... I don't think so,.........any thing is possable

please explain your words :: "but when I record something it jumps to tha channel evern if I am watching something else at the time."
