Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Belt coming off

The belt has come off twice now over the past week. Why ? The machine is about 6 years old and this is the first time it's had a problem. I want to know what the cause is. All the springs are in place and the pulleys seem ok, so I'm wondering if the belt stretches after such a long time and simply needs to be replaced. Suggestions pls !

Yes , in due course the belt can be worn out of the edges and so can SLIP through the pulley when there is load. Examine the belt carefully and check for the wedge damage, If so replace the belt, However if you have a problem to source, then you can try and use an emery paper to roughen the belt , clean the pulley, check on the alignment of the motor and main pulley and if the belt is slightly loose you can use some insulation tape on the pulley as a test solution before you source the right belt , so as to increase the diameter of the pulley to stretch the belt.

It appears your clutch assembly or tub bearing has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to or and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question

No get up & go

This unit runs a Hydro-Gear transaxle. These are normally pretty good units. Have the service guy check the fluid level and belt a stretched belt can also cause this issue.

When should I change my water pump and timing belt in m35

Every vehicle manufacture has different time frames

You could call & ask a dealer

Most never exceed 90,000 miles

15,000 per year X 6 years your at 90,000

You go more than that per year, I wouldn't
go past 6 years, in that case

You do the water pump, pulleys, tensioners etc
Those parts should come in a complete kit

My Sole F63 treadmill belt either fails to start or starts only with some coaxing

You may have a few different issues. it sounds like you may have motor or motor brush issues. If the motor brushes are burnt then they don't make proper contact with the motor so they won't be able to power it unless you help it along with your foot. If you are the original owner of the machine and have a proof of purchase that motor should be covered under warranty. The stop issue is a weird one. It's probably just that the stop button isn't working and that's a pretty inexpensive fix.

I would definitely not use the machine until you've had a technician look at it. I am going to guess that the treadmill is over 6 years old. If it is then on top of everything else you'll need a new walking belt. To put one cent into that machine and not replace the belt is a complete waste of money. The problems will all come back and they'll be much worse.

Timing belt replace escort 2000 engine

Don't know what answer your looking for !

I would ask -- why did the belt break,I change them
every 6 years & inspect a couple times a year

You remove the belt & debris from it,replace the
broken cover if necessary, with a used one, & replace
any damaged sensor & repair any wiring

If you never work on your own vehicles, then we can't
direct a repair shop as to how to do what they choose to do

If you need to do a timing belt, then you watch a You Tube
Video about that, on your specific car & the diagram should
be on the belt sleeve, if you get a gates or quality belt

When shoud i replace the timming belt?

Most recommend a new timing belt every 60,000 miles. Good insurance against a broken belt while engine is running. That means trouble.

Just mark the old belt to the gears with liquid paper prior to taking off, transfer marks to new belt & realign marks & it can't be wrong. But still turn motor twice by hand prior to starting just as a precaution to make sure nothing hits ie: pistons / valves

Lt4600 huskie riding mower :the belt that drives the blades keeps comming off .The authorized repair shop has replaced this belt twice the first year and it still comes off !.It's 2 years old . I

Sounds like you either have a bad bearing in the pullys or pully or the guides that keep that belt in place are not doing their job. Any repair shop can change out a belt. However, fixing it is another thing. I had a customer who said every since he had his lawn tractor the belt wouldn't last long enough to get a summer out of it. I found the spring missing of the tensioner pully for the belt when it's engaged and also the guide for the belt was on backwards and therefore cutting the face of the belt.
