You should either use this formula to remove 46% from 328.06. The first option is =B1-(B1*C2) wherein you should deduct 46% from B1 or just compute for the 54% of B1 which is =B1*56%.

Make sure, when you entr a formula that you hit the ENTER key instead of just moving to tyour next cell. To have all numbers added or moved, use the"Special" application, or change the value. Such as -if you are working in text mode and you enter numbers, they are only numbers in text mode. They don't have a value. Correct the cells to reflect numbers. Right click, format cell - select what you want.

  1. Select the column. (click on top of the column it will select)
  2. Right Click and select Format Cells.
  3. Select Currency in Category then press OK

That is Select the Cells which you want to SUM and Press Alt+=

This will bring the total just below the selected cells.

These are couple of solutions
First. Solution
  • Take away 20% means the answer is 80%
  • 20% means 0.2 of a number, 80% means 0.8 of a number
  • So If you have 200 in Cell B1
  • And you want 20% less in B2
  • Goto B1 type 200
  • Goto B2 type like this =B1*.8 and press ENTER
  • Now Cell B2 displays 160 which is the correct answer
Second Solution
  • Goto B1 type 200
  • Goto B2 type like this =B1-(B1*.2) and press ENTER
  • Now Cell B2 displays 160 which is the correct answer

Finding the correct row num


You would have to combine the use of 2 functions. The Address and Match funbctions.
Lets say the number you want the address of is located in cell F1 and you have 2 columns of numbers. One colum in Column A and the other in column B. I will give you 2 formulas. The 1st one will return just the row number. The 2nd one will return the cell address.

Option 1: Lets say you just want to know the row reference of the number in cell F1. Place this formula in cell D1. =MATCH(F1,A1:A20)
If you have another column ytou want the row number of, place the formula in lets say cell D2 and change the column references from 'A' to 'B'.

Option 2: If you want the cell reference, place this formula in cell D1 and D2 instead of the firt formula.
=ADDRESS(MATCH(F1,A1:A20,0),1,1,TRUE)
And just like the first option, for the 2nd column, put the formula in D2 and change the column reference 'A' to 'B'.

Add another colum, say D with result of B*C

Do a list of the different cat, and use sumif
For cat 0101 (in cell F1)
formula to put in G1
=sumif($A$1:$A$7000;F1;$D$1:$D$7000) where F1 contain 0101

expand the formula for other cat. (G2, G3, etc)

You can use a assistant to extract the distinct cat from A1:A7000, sorting them and copy the result in F (Menu Data-> Filter -> elaborate filter)

this is done through formulas. You write them in relationship to one another. Say you put a value into B1 then you write a formula for c2 like =SUM(A1/2)which means the sum of A1 divided by 2. or you can say make a formula that is like this =SUM(A1/C1) which means the value of A1 divided by the value of C1.

If I understood correctly, your spreadsheet looks something like this:
A B C D
1 Question Yes No Total
2 Is sky blue? 20 2 22
3 Is world round? etc.

In this case, the formula for % of Yes would be: =B2/D2. This would give you a decimal point result such as 0.909091. Now if you want to make this look like a percentage in your spreadsheet, just do the following:
1) click on the cell where you have the division formula
2) clck on Format in the top menu bar
3) click on Cells
4) click on the Number tab (if you're not already there)
5) click on Percentage in the list of categories
6) click OK

To boil it all down to a simple principle, percentages are created in Excel by dividing the two numbers using a formula with "/" in it, and then formatting the result to look like a percentage instead of a decimal.

I might have misunderstood your question, and I have an idea of what else you might have been asking (and another slightly more complicated solution for it!), so please let me know if my first answer didn't hit the mark!

Copying data from one sheet to another if two fileds match


Nope, sorry, although I am truly an expert at Excel formulas, I do not understand what you are trying to end up with in the final cell. We can compare a specified field with two spreadsheets - use named ranges and index/match lookup formulas. But then where you really lose me is in reading "a generic field" to find a match, and then placing what "data from another field" into what "other sheet" - ? See the confusion?

Best way to compare 2 given parameters would be to use a nested if formula, with index/match combo. Here is a simple Excel example of how such a formula could be structured:

Sample Data (columnar arangement):
A1: Part B1: Code C1: Price D1: Find Part E1: Find Code
A2: x B2: 11 C2: 5.00 D2: y E2: 12
A3: x B3: 12 C3: 6.00 D3: y E3: 11
A4: y B4: 11 C4: 7.00 D4: x E4: 12
A5: y B5: 12 C5: 8.00 D5: x E5: 11

To retrieve the price for part y with code 12 and return the value to cell F2, type the following formula in cell F2:
=INDEX($C$2:$C$5,MATCH(D2,IF($B$2:$B$5=E2,$A$2:$A$5),0))

Press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to enter the formula as an array formula. The formula returns the value 8.00.

To take this one step further, with range names, this example will find one value at a specified location which matches a specific row header value and column header value. Let's say the range is home values (Range=HomeVal), Column A of HomeVal contains street addresses,"row headers" (Range=StAddress), and Row 1 contains dates of the various values that are in the body of the table, "column headers" (Range=Dates). To return the specific value from the range HomeVal to another sheet, where A1=address specified and A2=date specified:
=INDEX(HomeVal,(MATCH($A$1,StAddress,0)),(MATCH($A$2,Dates,0)))

Then make sure to press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to enter the formula as an array formula - if you only hit enter, these types of formulas will not work properly.

Help with simple excel calculations


Hello.

For cell B1 you can use this (without the quotes) "=A1"

Then for cell A2 and down you don't need a formula, but for B2 you can use this formula. "=(B1+A2)" Then click on that cell and drag the mouse down for as many cells as you want this formula to include and press Control and F keys to fill the formula down the column.

For your second formula, you would type 100 into D1 and in D2 you would use the formula "=D1-E1" (again, no quotes).
