Chain saw died in the middle of a cut

My chain saw had been acting up by not idling, so i turned the idle up and used it for a few hours. Then it completely stopped running right in the middle of a big cut. And it wil NOT start or fire. I have changed the spark plug, cleaned the carburator and still nothing. Any suggestions?

Is it still mechanically sound? whip the muffler off and take a look at the piston skirt through the open exhaust port, any sign of scuffing or damage and it will have to come apart.

If your chain brake is not engaged, which i am sure you have checked, look at the air breather filter or the exhaust muffler which could be blocked with carbon.

SOURCE: Chain saw will idle, but not run at full throtle

your high speed jet is clogged ... both the low speed jet and the high speed jet are adjustable on the 2375 .. you might try to unclog the jet by removing the high speed adjustment screw (needle) ... first check to see where its set .. turn it in CW until it stops while counting the turns and fraction of turns as you do .. so you can set it close when you replace it ... sometimes just screwing the adjustment in then back out again cleans the jet .. or you can try a little carb cleaner in the hole after removing the adjustment ... sometimes you have to remove the carb and carefully clean the tiny passageways .. its easy for something to get stuck in those .. you can clean it yourself or have it cleaned or buy a new carb (abt $24) ... listed below is one source for carb parts .. make sure the gas cap is venting properly .. if its stuck and wont let air in . then the motor will run for a while then it will have your simptoms as vacuum builds in the tank .. the high speed jet has a very small hole that is easily clogged ..

adjust the L screw in fully till right in,then out 1.5 turns, same with H screw. Then start saw, adjust L screw in or out slowly till you get max revs. You may need to lower idle via idle screw if revs too high. When screw cant acheive better revs, reset idle. Then, rev saw to max revs, adjusting H screw to get max revs, then when max revs acheived, turn screw anti clockwise 1/4 turn out. That gives it enough petrol to cool the tip of the plug

I have had to change a few fuel tank breathers on the 455 and 460 saws, when it starts to die try to slacken off the fuel filler cap, if it picks up again it is a brather issue, the breather is under the starter cover at the top right hand corner.

There are a few things to check, if the muffler has a spark arrester gauze in the out let this may well be blocked, remove the muffler and the gauze, does the engine now rev? if yes either the park arrester is blocked or the muffler itself is blocked, if this does not cure it, check the flow of fuel from the tank to the new carb, replace the filter in the fuel tank and try again, if this does not help try running the saw with the air filter removed, if it revs normally the filter is blocked.

Husqvana 65 chain saw will rev fully when idle but dies when introduced to timber

Sounds like the saw is running lean. Check the fuel filter, air cleaner and muffler for plugging. Check the condition of the fuel lines and that the fasteners on the carburetor are tight. If all ok, turn the 'L' and 'H' jet needles on the carburetor CW to stops (lightly), then back out each 1-1/2 turns CCW. This is a basic setting and the engine should start and run. Allow the engine to warm up, pull the throttle full on, and adjust H CW until the engine starts to speed up, but continues to 4-stroke. Proper adjustment is when the engine 4-strokes, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. This produces the most power and least heat. Allow to idle and adjust L CW until the engine runs fairly well, yet will allow it to 'follow the throttle'. Set the idle speed screw til the chain stops moving, but keeps the engine running. Hope this helps!

The saw starts and runs on fast idle but dies when you use the throttle? it,s a troybilt 18in saw

It sounds like it is flooding when you use the throttle, both are connected. Turn the idle back all the way until it dies, then try turning it a 1/4 turn the other direction.

I have stihl chain saw it runes full throttle

After you let off of the throttle it dies instantly or just kind of quits slowly ?
It could be :
- 1 ) Your clutch is hanging up and not allowing the engine to idle while the chain is not moving.
- 2 ) You need to set the idle higher. You will need to remove the air cleaner, and find the small idle adjustment screw, and turn the screw clockwise, until it idles.
Please let me know.

After running for about a half hour or so it begins to stall in between cuts . . should i adjust the low, high or idle screw

Is the chain being properly oiled? You should get a thin line of oil after running the tip of the saw near to a piece of paper or cardboard for moment or two. Is the saw getting overly hot after running? Clean the cylinder and air passages with compressed air if it is. Check the muffler for any plugging of spark arrestor screen. Turn both jet screws CW to stops (lightly) then turn both out 1-1/2 turns CCW for a basic setting. Pull throttle full on (after warm up) and adjust H for high engine speed, but 4-stroking that smooths out immediately when cutting. Release throttle and adjust L for fairly smooth idle, but rich enough to allow the engine to 'follow-the-throttle'. Adjust idle speed so that the chain stops moving. Hope this helps.

Idle is off??

hi leobowdy

disassembly the carb and carefully clean it.Check the air filter, the fuel line and fuel filter, check the needle, lever, small spring and the screen filter from the carb.Check the sparkplug.
high speed H=2 turns,low speed L=2 1/2 turns,adjust T
When chain saw starts adjust H,L and T accordingly.
