Question about Schwinn Original Airdyne

Open Question

An old airdyne with analog speedometer. The spline on the casing at the axel does not spin as the wheel rotates. Is that casing replaceable?

My dealer says it is an obsolete part and not available, but they may be able "to fix it'.

I would take it in for service and let the professionals give it a tune up. You have a very good machine and I am sure that it needs to have the bottom bracket tightened and lubed. We have sold over 5000 Schwinn Air Dynes since 1981 and they are always worth fixing. So give it some love and it will be with you forever. Doctors and sports teams love these machines because it has a measured workload and they can write a program for you. We sell lots of excercise machines, treadmills etc but the Schwinn Air Dyne is the best of all of them.

Have you checked the splines on the wheel hub end of the cv joint? They're splined - and when the splines wear down - the cv joint will turn - but you're tire won't. If you shoot me your make and model and I have the manual - I'll shoot you the minimal clearance on those spines. If it's not the splines (male) on the cv joint - it's probably the female splines of the hub

DIY cv axle 2008 chevy aveo

Jack the vehicle up at proper jack points and lower onto jack stand or stands.remove drivers side wheel. Use needle node pliers and a screwdriver to remove the cotter pin in the axel nut and determine the size of the axel nut. It will most likely be metric 28mm to 36mm. Use an impact to remove the axel nut. Now you will need to remove one or both of the ball joints. Start with the bottom one first and hold the axel in place and pull out on the hub. After you have the hub off of the axel note the splines and how the line up. Now turn the hub so that it is out of the way. You may be able to just yank the axel out of the transmission. If it didn't come out easily you will need a crow bar to gently pry the axel out of the case. Be careful not to put too much pressure on the transmission case. It's aluminum and it will crack and break if you beat on it. Just pry gently and with the transmission in neutral ( be sure to chalk the rear wheels so the car won't run you over) slowly rotate the axel and pry until it comes out. If that doesn't work you will need to rent a slide hammer. Thread it to the free end of the axel and forcefully slide the weight out to knock the axel about of the trans. Installation is reverse. DO NOT USE A HAMMER to force the axel back in you will mushroom the threads and never get the nut on.

I can't get rear wheel to slide back on the gear

Put the motorcycle in gear so when you rotate the rear wheel the spline on the final drive does not rotate with the wheel. Did you remember to grease the final drive spline with Moly60 Paste available from your local Honda dealer?

How about going to a Schwinn dealer who has been in business for a long time? The speedometer drivers are no longer available, you have to get it changed over to electronic. This not something that you can do on your own, it has to be done by someone who knows the product. We have been in business 40+ years and sold Air Dynes since 1979, I do know what I am saying.

Remove rear tire honda shadow aero

Center stand the bike or jack it up to get the rear wheel off the ground ,loosen the rear axel nut, take out the bolt, knock out the spacer on the brake panel, unhook the brake cable , unbolt the bar going to the brake panel, grab the wheel, and slide it sideways away from the final drive. The wheel should slide right off the spline of the final drive and roll out the back under the fender. If the wheel wont slide past the final drive let the air out of the tire. Be sure to coat the spline of the final drive with moly60 paste from your local Honda dealer when reassembling.

I am trying to replace the 4wd drive actuator on my 2004 gmc.how do i get the spline on the transfer case to line up with the spline on the actuator?

Rotate the actuator until the spline goes on partially, then rotate to align with mounting bolts. May need to turn wheels while doing the final rotation.

Speedometer not working on 2002 Suzuki Volusia VL800. Need to fix soon any suggestions? Response greatly appreciated ASAP

Hi there!

I hope i responded quickly. The speedometer needle movement is caused by the speedometer cable that runts to your front wheel's gear unit. Check for the cable that goes near the axle of your front wheel and check that its properly screwed. Put the bike on stand and spin the wheel, if it still doesnt responed. Remove the cable, unscrew it near the front wheel axle first and try spinning the small "squared wire" inside, if you still can't get any action on the speedometer. Then chances are either your speedometer cable is cut in the middle or the speedometer display is jammed (unlikely). Remove the cable from the speedometer unit and check that it is freely rotating. Oil it and put back.
Next, we need to check for the gear near the axle of your front wheel. Screw the speedometer cable to the gear unit near the axle with the other end removed from the speedometer unit. Spin the wheel and check that the inner cable is responding or spinning.. If it doesnt, then your speedometer gears are worn out. Disassemble the front wheel and bring the gear assembly to the nearest parts dealer for purchase. Normally, they don't sell a repair kit so you'll need to purchase the whole gear assembly.

whichever the case, either you purchase a speedometer cable or the gear unit. Seldom will the speedometer unit be destroyed.

pardon me for not organizing this response as you were requesting a quick solution .. so i answered as quick as i could... hehe. Hope this helps!

Screws on my Sears track drive snowblower unthread themselves.

Back wheels have a gear that connects to the drive chain. on each side. those spin.
The front ones which are Idlers do not spin as the idler wheel as a bushing in it that allows free motion on the shaft without resistance. Use a nylock nut with Locktight for starters. The try that.

Hope this helps. -Jeff anchorage small engine repair.
