Re: why not win xp load in compaq presario cq40
The notebook is preinstalled with a SATA hard drive which needs seperate drivers to be installed inorder to get the hard drive detected. The drivers for the SATA can be installed only by using a floppy drive. As the notebook does not have a floppy drive installed, we can either try disabling the SATA native support in BIOS or install the drivers with the help of a USB floppy drive.
Here is the link for SATA driver:
Check the following document to install SATA dirver without using the floppy drive:

Unfortanetely there are no Drivers for Compaq presario cq40 108tu for WINDOWS SERVER Operating System. There are Drivers for WINDOWS7 and WINDOWS VISTA only. You need to change your operating system to WIN 7 or WIN VISTA.
you mean you need to downgrade your computer from Windows Vista to XP? if so is the case, you need to go to the BIOS in the Boot menu, select IDE from ACPI. put the boot option to boot from CD first or disable Boot from hard disk. then you will be able to downgrade your computer from Vista to XP.
Goto my computer and right click, goto properties then device manager, scroll down to sound, video and game controllers, click on the "+" sign and see if there are any exclamaition marks if there are right click on them and choose update driver, use the internet option to download the driver for you, it takes a few minutes so be patient, post me back if you need more help.cheers.
hi aman this is saurabh ....i can solve ur problem...let me tell u that tere has been a colobration between microsoft and hp that hp will not install any hard disk drivers of any old operating system that is basically xp...thats why when u try to install xp u get an fatal error of hardidsk error.....so i have made a cd in which the drivers r prem loaded and it will run in ur compaq presario.......so u call me i will send u the cd...my no is 09896038291
As far as I can see from the compaq website, the driver should install from the XP cd, there is no driver on their website for this model laptop, not XP anyway. Have you tried upgrading to service pack 3?
while booting the computer when it says compaq try to press esc key and then try to change the boot device of the computer and if you have win xp cd put the cd in and try to boot the computer from that particular cd ,,,and it will definetly work
