Br 400 spewing oil out the back

16 years old, lots of hours on blower, still seems to have plenty of power, spraying oil out the rear plastic housing, top of gas tank area. Are the cylinder rings worn out?

The only oil in the machine is that which is mixed with the fuel. If the machine is still running well with plenty of compression then i doubt it would be the piston rings. With the limited information i would say to check the exhaust gasket between the exhaust port and the exhaust itself. Sometimes these can degrade and dirty liquid can be blown out of the gap.

What kind of oil should I use and how much of it

Here is a list of oils which are suitable and the correct grade for that engine. There are others of course but I cannot list all of them.
Personally I would use the first one on this list but the Castrol Edge is also a very good oil..
Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 10W-30
Pennzoil SAE 10W-30 Motor Oil
FormulaShell SAE 10W-30 Motor Oil
Castrol EDGE Extended Performance 10W-30

The oil capacity is 1.14 gallons which will include the oil filter..

If there is an issue with the dipstick I would buy a new one. You should still be able to get the correct item. If you are having issues then go to one of the older camaro internet forums and ask them the best place to get a replacement dip stick.

1. If the car has been idle for 5 years, you want to get all the old oil out, any oily sludge that has not bonded to parts and to change the oil filter. Make sure it is warm /hot when draining it and make sure the oil is topped off before running the engine.

Drain the old oil out and change the oil filter. Then get one of the cheaper 10w-30 oils and fill it with that. Then run the engine for at least 20 minutes to get it warmed up and the new oil circulating. If possible take it for a 60 minute drive. Then drain that new cheap oil out and remove the new oil filter and tip the oil out of that also.
This process will give your engine a good flushing with new oil.

2. Then fit the oil filter back on and refill the engine with your choice of better oil like the Ultra Platinum 10w-30. Run the engine for about 1500-2000 miles or about 40 hours and then change the oil and oil filter once again.

If the engine has been sitting for 5 years this process will clean it out as well as possible without dismantling it and it will not cost you much especially if you do it yourself which on that vehicle is very easy.

3. You will also need to drain and replace other fluids

- transmission fluid whether an auto or manual trans
- bleed the brakes and completely replace the old brake fluid in the entire system (extremely important as the brake fluid will be in terrible condition)
- change the differential oil
- change the power steering fluid.
- (if a manual transmission bleed out and replace the clutch fluid.)

How to fix low beam headlights won't come on---hi beams work ok?

Kenneth, you need to give more details on what kind of vehicle, year, make, style and so forth so we can attempt to make a judgment on this.

Well did you try the solution?

Your headlights are an essential safety system for nighttime driving & visibility. If your headlights are not working, or are not aimed properly, you might not be able to see the road clearly.

Here are some suggestions on how to troubleshoot various kinds of headlight problems:

Problem: One headlight does not work

This usually means one of the headlight bulbs has burned out. Bulbs have a limited life that depends on the number of hours of use, and how much vibration they have been subjected to over time. The thin tungsten filament inside an incandescent headlight bulb will eventually burn out. The more nighttime driving you do, the sooner one or both headlights will fail. A typical automotive incandescent headlamp (halogen or regular) has a service life that may range from 600 to as much as 2000 hours of use. For the average motorist who drives 12,000 to 15,000 miles a year, that means replacing a headlight maybe every five or six years depending on how often the headlights are used. Driving on rough roads may cut that life short by causing the delicate filament inside the bulb to fail prematurely.

The Fix: Replace the burned out bulb.

But before you do that, inspect the electrical connector on the back of the headlight carefully for damage, and see that it is not corroded or loose.

The headlight bulbs on most vehicles today are changed from the back of the headlight housing. The housing is a sealed plastic shell with the bulb and socket mounted on the back. The socket that holds the bulb usually twist-locks into the housing. Rotating it counterclockwise about ¼ turn will unlock the tabs and allow you to pull the bulb and socket out of the housing. Access on some vehicles is easy, but on others you may have to remove other components that are in the way, or even remove the housing mounting bolts and remove the housing before you can change the bulb. See your owners manual or the vehicle service literature for detailed instructions on how to replace a headlight bulb.

Once the socket has been removed from the headlight housing, you can pull the old bulb out of the socket and replace it with a new one (must be the same size and style as the original bulb).

Aftermarket replacement bulbs with slightly higher wattage ratings and/or tinting are available to upgrade headlight performance and improve nighttime and bad weather visibility.
best regards,

daid

I ask you did you try the solution posted twice then?

The sewing machine was apparently used once for a small job and then put away. The next time it was to be used the hand wheel was found not to turn.

Sometimes, if the machine has not been used in a long while, the grease and oil can harden around the bearings and other metal moving joints. To get it moving again, a few drops of Triflow and a hot hair dryer aimed at the recalcitrant bearing while gently moving the hand wheel will start it moving. Just continue working on that point until it is freed up. A good cleaning would then be in order. I am assuming a vintage mostly metal machine for this answer, not a computerized electronic machine.

How do I replace the linear ball bearing on a c8fb2 Hitachi miter saw

Its not too difficult:
1) There are 2 retainer pins located on the rear slide support (#4 on breakdown) - carefully drive these out with a punch - be careful to support the bracket so you don't break it.
2) remove the rear support and slide the saw head and arms out of the bearing.
3) Remove the 2 covers (front and rear) over the bearing
4) loosen the allen head set screw on the housing that holds the bearing in place
5) using a large socket and a plastic hammer - gently tap out the old bearing.
Reverse process to replace.
Do not use grease or oil on the bearing or slides - use a pure, clear silicone spray that dries completely - grease & oil attract & hold dirt and debris and will cause bearing failure.

Backpack blower will not shut off when knob is pushed to "stop". Have to disconnect spark plug boot to shut off blower.

Your off switch may be wet or disconnected. You can try spraying it with a little bit of contact cleaner or WD to clear the moisture. If this doesnt work you can pull a cover and trace back the wire and see if it just fell off or melted. Good luck and be safe!

Car stalls in rain

You did not mention the year of your car so it is hard to answer. If it is old enough to still have a distributor then you may have moisture inside the cap. Pop it loose and spray with electrical contact cleaner or WD-40. Also look for cracks in the cap and/or damage to the seal at the bottom of the cap while you have it off. If you have any doubts about it replace it.

Stihl br 400 problem- spewing oil out the back of motor

I would say it is not an issue with the piston and rings, any oil leaking from the muffler has to be unburnt oil from the fuel/oil mix, if not already you should run it at a 50-1 mix, also make sure the engine is not running too rich on the fuel screws, check the condition of the air filter as a blocked filter will richen the mixture.

Troy Bilt power washer 020293- Oil in air filter

that is incorrect. if the oil has been over filled, it will saturate the filter element by way of the crankcase breather tube. it is the small plastic pipe that connects to the bottom of the filter housing. check the oil level. these machines take very little oil. approx 20 oz. if overfilled, it will leak out filter.
