Epson Stylus CX7400 Black ink won't print

I've replaced the cartridges for all the colors & black, but nothing prints for black. I ran the nozzle check and did the head cleaning twice earlier today and once just now, but nothing changes.

Mine has a similar problem - only it won't print any color at all except for cyan.

Already did all of the above to no avail. Customer service and repair shops both said it was more than a mechanical defect w/the printer :( But it would cost more than the value of the printer to even have it looked at!

EPSON PRINTERS ARE BY FAR THE WORST PRINTERS I HAVE EVER BOUGHT. I AM RUNNING INTO THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU, I REPLACED THE CARTRIDES NOT ONCE BUT TWICE AND NOW AM GOING TO JUST BUY A NEW DAMN PRINTER. EPSON IS LIKE THE K-CAR OF PRINTERS, CHEAP, AND AFFORDABLE AND ALSO DISPOSABLE AFTER THE FIRST INK RUNS OUT.

    BEWARE: DON'T BUY EPSON!!!

Make sure the tape has been removed from each of the cartridges.
Clean the head and the nozzels.
The cartridges may be defective, afterall they come from China.
Try a new cartridge and see.
Good Luck.

It sounds like the printer is defective if out of warranty maybe it would be better to buy a new printer, diffrent model.

    Good Luck.

I replaced all of the cartridges with Epson, but the black won't print. After some nozzle checks, black is getting low and STILL no black printing occurring... what going on? Now the other colors are...

Nozzle cleaning uses a lot of ink, that's probably why the other ink cartridges are registering low on ink. Are you using refilled cartridges or brand new? Also, have you had the cartridges for awhile? I've found that the nozzles can become clogged either from not using the printer for awhile or because it's a recycled cartridge that didn't have the nozzles cleaned before it was refilled. When that happens, unfortunately, sometimes it takes a lot of cleaning cycles before the printing comes back. Let me know more about the cartridges you have.

There is nothing wrong with the black ink. Just run the head cleaning for better printing.

1. Go to printer and faxes
2. Right click your printer ( Epson Stylus Multifunction Printer/ Copier/ Scanner InkJet)
3. Click printing preferences
4. Click Maintenance Tab
5. Click Head Cleaning
6. Run head cleaning for 5 times then try printing.

Black and white not printing correctly, color is fine

If you are not using Epson ink, your printer will do this. Epson printers hate knock-off ink. Always use Epson ink if you want to keep your printer working properly. To solve the problem you are having, try cleaning the ink tubes. Make sure you re-install them properly. Hope this helps. Charlene

Not printing after color cartridge ran out - new black cartridge installed.

Yes, this printer has fixed printheads and must have ink in each color to prevent damage to the printheads. Even when printing black only each color is spit in the servicing area to keep the printhead unclogged.

Printing without color?

Im sorry to inform but yes, Epson ink jet printers require all of the ink cartridges to have ink in them in order to print any color, black and white, or grayscale images. Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when users are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged for color printing and prevent air bubbles from entering the color print nozzles which can damage the print head. Therefore, once one of the cartridges are expended, the printer signals you to replace the cartridge in order for printing to continue.
