Question about Home Security

I have a 4 channel Sunluxy H.264 Network DVR, I have fitted a 300gb HDD but although the system is working and I get the 4 cameras on screen the message I keep getting on boot up is HDD not found

I sent the DVR back to the supplier and this was replaced and I got the same problem, I sent the Seagate 300GB HDD back and this was exchanged for another HDD a 300GB Western Digital. The problem still remains with both the DVR and HDD being replaced, I use the system but cannot record can you advise what can be done to rectify the problem

Hi Peter.... Sorry, I should'nt have assumed anything about these units.

  • Ian Ball Jan 22, 2013

I am working on a neighbours 8ch sunluxy. Rather unfriendly little beasty! So you have zeroed and formatted the drive on a win7 pc so the drive is fine. This unit formats to FAT32 so yours should too. Have you tried different jumper settings on the drive? (Master, Slave, Cable select or even remove all jumpers?) The only other thing I can think of off hand is do you have spare sata cables possibly from an old pc motherboard to try. If all that fails, then I would be inclined to think the second unit is faulty as well..... Stranger things have happened! I'm sort of out of ideas right now.... but I will keep an eye on your post and keep an ear out for any new info or ideas. Good luck!

Sorry again... forget what I said about the jumpers... sata drives don't use them basically so there may be pins but no jumpers fitted!

Yep I am baffled have sent unit and drive to someone who knows what to do, let's see if it cracks it

Guys this one stumped me for some time, here is my solution that worked like a dream

1. plug the hard drive you are using into a pc and check the hard drive is recognise and works.
2. Delete all partitions
3. ensure it has a 8 bit cache buffer!! This is the most important one. That means the system only supports older hard drives. I got 2 second hand ones from the local pc store for $50. See the list of hard drives that are know to work below.

MANUFACTURER MODEL CAPACITY ROTATION
ST3320613AS 320GB 7200 rpm
ST33500320AS 500GB 7200 rpm
ST3750330AS 750GB 7200 rpm
Seagate
ST31000340AS 1000GB 7200 rpm
WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 rpm
WD5000AACS 500GB 7200 rpm
WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 rpm
WD7500AAKS 750GB 7200 rpm
WD10EADS 1TB 7200 rpm
WD15EADS 1.5TB 7200 rpm
WD
WD20EADS 2TB 7200 rpm
Maxtor STM3500320AS 500GB 7200 rpm
STM3750330AS 750GB 7200 rpm
HITACHI HDT725032VLA360 320GB 7200 rpm
HDS721010KLA330 1000GB 7200 rpm

FYI for some reason the person I bought this off online "Ebay" had no idea how to support and I could not get support from their web site as they email they give just bounces back.

Cheers.

HI Patrick, I have a WD10 EZEX 1TB HDD 64mb cache for use with same sunluxy dvr. After initial installation and formatting of drive all worked ok. Having turned of the dvr to complete fitting of cameras. When I restarted the dvr it gave me the HDD not found message. Do I need to do as you have suggested and how would i go about changing it to a 8mb cache? All help gratefully recieved. Thanks Meric

hi i've searched for these hdd's but most of them seem to be 16mb cache, wondering why you have said it's important for it to be 8mb cache???

Hi Peter.
Sounds like you are trying to record to a USB hard drive. Open the dvr box and fit a (preferably) 3.5 inch internal hard drive with a sata connection. The machine should then find the drive and ask if you want to format it.
Hope this Helps.Cheers.... Ian Ball

You may be lucky because the battery acid may not have gone beyond the contacts in the battery chamber: open battery chamber and clean out especially at the bottom of the chamber and blow out any loose stuff when you finished cleaning ( use pencil erazor or something similar , but do not use sand paper or anything that will damage chrome plating of the contacts ; you do not want corrosion at later stage ).
