Go to..
Menu / Setup / Source

Scroll down and Highlight Center Input, And select Off.

If it dont work first time round, Disconnect all Audio/Video leads from TV, and try again.

Hi Joan, I am happy to help.
You will need to change your audio settings from the menu. The tv is currently set to accept a signal from a surround sound system and it wants to use the tv speaker as the center channel speaker.
Go to audio options and change the setting to stereo. Let me know how it goes and I can provide further assistance. Please rate this solution. Lone99star

It will be listed as screen option, it will be "widescreen" "panoramic" and regular broadcast image, no such button as aspect but the above are aspect options.

Why can't I get the DVD player to work? I have it hooked up to a cable box.

im wondering why you did not connect it to the tv ?? but instead to cable box , does it have a pass thru capability ?? does it need to be off to pass thru ?? as most dvd player don't have a rf output but instead use a hdmi or composite signal output , would it not be easier to connect one of these to a spare input on tv then when u want to use dvd you only need to select the proper input from tvs source button to view the dvd ??

If the converter goes out does the tv not do anything no screen light uponly red standby light?

if your question is that if cable or sat converter goes off for any reason , will your tv display a black screen , then the answer is yes , without an input most all tv sets will display the opposite of full white , this being full black , also any on screen displays might not work as well (no video to sync too)

TV turns on fine but turns off in 5 to 10 mins

Yes, this normal, by the lack of detail shown in your question. Once you press any key it should come back on unless it is set to turn it self off while in sleep mode. This is to protect the display from creating burn in setting.
