Each burner has a sensor in it. These sensors will STICK and stay on even if the burner is off. Usually occurs with the burner that is used the most such as for chicken frying and such. If the burner eye is not the problem then the switch that controls the burner would be the next thing to check. An interesting video that show switch failures:

Grill will not stay lit if using 4 th burner will only work on 3 burners and gas is low

Check that the fourth burner tube is set properly into the unit. Then turn all burners off, turn off the natural gas supply or remove the LP tank. turn all the burners on (don't try to light) wait a couple seconds turn all burners off. reconnect gas source. turn on gas, open burners fully and try to light.

LIGHT STAYS ON FOR HOURS BUT THE TOP HAS COOLED

if its going out, its probably ok
its not a light indicating the burner is on, rather that the glass is abcove 100 degrees and still not safe to put something on
2 hours is a bit long but it depends on how fst the surface can cool of
you can test this by trying to cool it off faster with a fan ans see what happens

Red light stays on indicating burner is on when burner is not on.

It should stay on after the burner has been turned off and remain on until the top has completely cooled down,if it stays on and never goes off, the thermostat for one or more burners is faulty and will need replaced.

Whirlpool electric range burner power light stays on but no heat

Hello givemeanidth.
Welcome to Fixya

You said, have a Whirlpool electric range (model rf363pxpt0) with standalone burners - the burner power indicator light stays lit whether the heat control knob is on or off, there is no heat coming from the burner on or off. You pulled the burner from the receptacle and one of the tabs broke off and stayed in the receptacle. You removed the tab and made sure no pieces remained in the receptacle then bought a replacement burner, no change. You put the replacement burner in the back burner of the same size and had heat within 10 seconds. You changed out the burner with the one that had been in the back of the range, no heat. As long as the breaker to the range is on the power light stays lit but no power to that one burner only.

What is the model number and the age of your range?

Waiting for your reply.
