Question about Sharp AL-1641CS All-In-One Laser Printer
The unit was on its 3rd to 4th toner cartrige when the drum replacement light came on and stopped copy/print. We replaced with OEM drum & toner but it produced only a complete black page which was surprising as there had been no copy/print issues prior. The unit was taken out of service and stored for the last two years but I would like to put this back in service as backup printer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hi you have not said the toner type you replaced with though that will give not completely black copy. The problem may have been the drum unit installation. Make sure the charge unit over the drum service is present ie the one with a mesh wire like grid. If present, clean it or wipe with a soft clean and dry cloth. Clean the saw-tooth like metal plate inside that unit by slow blowing and make sure no toner particles are there. Finally screw the unit properly on the drum unit and your problem is solved.

SOURCE: Consistent Squeaking Noise
The fuser unit, [near the paper exit] which heat-sets [fuses] the toner onto the paper, has bearings (bushings) that are screaming for high-temperature grease. Open it, and apply some common sewing machine oil onto the bushings. If the noise stops, you will need to repeat this every 2-3 months or disassemble the fuser roller and apply high-temperature grease.

Most likely you had a toner cartridge failuer leaving some of the ink and developer in the crevices above the paper feeder and its just trickling onto the paper.
It pretty much needs to have the cartrides taken out and thouroghly vaccumed.
Just takes patience and time to get it all removed.
Dont vacuum the cartridges, but the inside of the machine.
Pull your paper tray out and see if there is toner and developer trickling into it.

First of all, this copier doen't have print heads that spray ink like an inkjet. Its print heads (4, one for each color) are LED arrays, all they do is emit light. They can get dirty, but not clogged with ink.
Suggestion: Make a color copy at the copier, then print a color picture from a workstation. If the copied page looks good and the printed one doesn't, the copier is probably OK. Reinstall the print driver. I suggest you download the latest driver just for effect.
This worked for me at a customers site just today.
