Why does the reset button on one of the tanks keep kicking when no water is being used?

The tank is overheating when not in use. If it is an electric water heater, you must replace the upper and lower thermostats as well as the high limit(reset button). If the tank is 10 years old or more, you may want to replace it rather than fix it as the average life of a tank is about 10 years before it starts leaking.

Getting A2 code and hot water shuts off. We do a reset and hot water will run for awhile then we get A2 code and no hot water again.

Thanks for stopping by:

A2 error on your Bosch water heater means "Fault in the flue gas limiter"

This can be caused by several things:
The gasket on the flue gas collector may be dislodged/leaking.
Check/Remove/Reseat the gasket.
It will not reset until about a two hour cool down.

Also - check the overheat sensor fuse wire - it may have gotten hot and melted the jacket and/or been dis-colored.

Finally - there is a retrofit kit "repair" that can be obtained by calling them directly.

1-800-642-3111 and request the "FLUE GAS LIMITER RETROFIT", Part NO. 8-700-400-032. This should solve many error code situations and get you on your way again.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

Reset button needs reset daily

Thermostat may need replacing in order to take care of this issue.

You may try turning temperature down a little and see if it will stay on. Temperature may be set high and heater heating beyond limit and tripping it out.

More than likely theremostat is going bad.

You need to press the reset butten every 10 hours

If you have to keep resetting it the thermostat maybe going bad. They are not to costly maybe around $15 dollars.
Inspect the element's wiring and make sure that it look's intact and no burnt look to it. They can short out and trip the reset button also.
Turn power off and disconnect the thermostat one wire at a time and reconnect to new one. You could draw yourself a diagram of th ewiring pattern to make sure you wire it back up correctly.

York Dianond 80 Furnace

You have a limit switch that needs to be reset. It is probably the roll out switch that is located on the burner housing. The limit switch is a disk about the size of a dime or penny and has two wires to it. There is a small button in the middle of these two wires. Press this button firmly to reset it. Look for all the limits that may be on the unit that is manual reset like the one described above and do the same. This should correct your problem.
