Definitely sounds like you have a bad CCD. There is good news for you though. Canon recognized this particular model's CCD as faulty, and it is under recall! This means they will repair or replace your camera free of charge.
From Canon website: "U.S. residents are kindly directed to contact the Canon Customer Support Center for further assistance at 1-800-828-4040. Support hours are Monday thru Friday - 8:00 AM to 12:00 midnight; and Saturday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (all times EST). Alternatively, if electronic support is preferred, please send your email to email@example.com"
Explain to them you have a Canon PowerShot A75 digital camera with a bad CCD and you were looking to get it serviced by them under the recall.

I think you can not see live view in Canon A75 to take picture.
If its correct then it is problem of bad cd imager sensor and that part requires replacement.
Canon will repair Canon A75 Free of Cost as per announced scheme.

On the back of the camera there is a button with a clock picture (usually with only one hand). Press this button and watch the screen. You will be given the choice of 2 or 10 seconds.(that varies with camera model). Pick one (usually 10 seconds is better) and push set. Press the shutter button and get in front of the camera...smile.

Place the camera in P, Tv, Av, M, Movie, or Stitch-assist mode. Press the Func/Set button, and scroll down to the "My Colors" icon on the left side (second or third icon down, should show "My Colors Off" at the bottom of the LCD). Now use the left/right buttons to select "B/W", and press the Func/Set button again.
