The unit can be repaired by the right people- there are not so many of them around. Discs can not be repaired!. Also the model you have may not be compatible with other disc formats that were made at a later time. This disc systems use higher compression and different algorithms.
I have worked on more of my share of these units but mostly Sony and Tascam units. Sony invented the thing.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

That seems quite odd. Are the pre-recorded discs spinning properly? Do the sliding protectors work properly?

If you're asking whether there's any hardware which will read Minidisc digital files and transfer them to a pc, then no. Digital transfers are a one way street from the pc to the player, but you can transfer the analogue signals by simply plugging an audio patch lead between the player and the pc.

It sounds like you have a newer portable minidisc player, and an older deck. There were several upgrades over the years for ATRAC files, and some of the newer recording formats are not compatible with older players.

    Volume

Your MD player probably isn't LP capable. Attempting to play an LP recorded MiniDisc in a player that is only SP capable will produce no sound even though the display (time counter, track name) looks like everything is operating properly. Record the MD you were attempting to play in SP and you will get sound.
