Question about Singer Sewing Machines

Singer 513 bobbin thread doesn't feed

The needle goes up and down and the feed dogs are moving but the bobbin thread doesn't engage. I took it apart and pulled out lint and dust from the gears. I can move the bobbin housing a little to get it started, but it engages for only a moment then stops.

The machine may need to be serviced to see if there is some adjustment
needed or see if it's a timing problem.

Thanks Debbi for the advice. I think something might be broken and after looking at the schematics for the bobbin feeder, I will be better off letting a professional fix it!

Your machine may need retiming but take the top cover off and look at the nylon gear which may be broken which is normal for it's age and you can do it yourself I have all the instructions and it will save you a fortune.

SOURCE: Feed Dogs, Thread Tangle

Hi Jeanette! You have a Singer Featherweight--the best sewing machine ever made! (Mine dates from 1950/51 and I wouldn't trade it for the world.) These beautiful, sturdy machines were designed to be easily repairable at home, but you'll need a copy of the Service Manual (get the Instruction manual too, if you don't have one.) Go to www.singer-featherweight.com and check out what they have available.

I had a similar problem (needle thread not catching the bobbin thread) and the problem was that I hadn't put the needle in correctly (flat side to the left). Also, I will occasionally get thread wrapped around the bobbin housing--sewing along just great and then everything comes to a screeching halt. I'm not sure why that happens, but I'm getting pretty good at taking the bobbin housing apart. The manual is pretty clear on how to do it. You can contact me direct at robbie1949@comcast.net for more information.

Thanks!

Robbie

SOURCE: I have a Singer Stylist 513 & I cannot get the feed dogs raised.

The model 513 Singer has two gears which operate the feeding mechanism. If one of these gears is broken, the machine will run except the feed dogs will not move. This is a very common problem with this model.

Pfaff select 1540 bobbin thread jam

if there is a thread in the hook area try taking a pair of needle nose
pliers to try & get the thread out, if that doesn't work then you might
think about taking the machine to a sewing machine shop to have the
machine checked since the needle will not go up & down & handwheel
won't move

Singer 4423, timing out, what line up with what

I don't think it's a major timing issue, so don't panic. Take a look at your selected stitch pattern selector and set for straight stitch, and set Tension at 3-4. Width: 4. Length: 4. Make sure presser foot Down when you rethread machine so the tesion disks open up to locate thread. Always hold thread taut when "feeling" for tension slot. Insert new needle. Needle goes all the way up into needle clamp as far as it can possibly go, FLAT side needle toward needle bar and more rounded side needle facing you. Leave 6" tail. Hold thread toward you as you turn hand wheel toward you so needle can make a loop with bobbin thread. Make sure bobbin thread isn't hanging down on or across bobbin! Make sure thread in bobbin has wound evenly - good quality thread ideal! Clean bobbin area and feed dogs for broken, loose threads and lint. Always use needles appropriate size for weight of fabric. I suggest walking away from machine, taking deep, cleansing breadth, humming a favorite tune, then doing above and see how it goes! Soon your machine will be humming happily along with you. Hope these suggestions help. Jimmy

I can not figure out how to raise the feed dog. the needle will not pick up the bobbin thread. Are these connected? thanks, Pauline paulinemccracken@gmail.com

Possibly. First put in a NEW needle. Then check when you rotate the handwheel to see if the hook is rotating around the bobbin case. If not, then probably the timing belt has come off. If the hook is rotating around the bobbin case and the feed dogs are not coming up, then check that you have the feed dogs engaged. Another sinario is that the timing is off just enough to not pick up the bobbin thread. Check for these symptoms first, and then well go from there.

Why would my Singer 6235 not feed the fabic:

h! there,
fabric moves forward when machine run due to movement of feed dogs, feed dog has a teeth, when your foot presser goes down attached to fabrics the pressure hold the fabric between pressure foot and feed dogs that why when machine run feed dogs pushed fabric when recieved stitch.try to check adjustment of feed dogs it maybe set at rest or neutral.reset it to upward towards needle.check also bobbins thread if accumulation was build up under feed dogs.regard and have a nice day.
