Question about SimpleTech 160GB USB 2.0 / FireWire External Open Box (STIU2F36160OBB1) Hard Drive

Simpletech 1TB USB not recognised properly

I purchased a Simpletech 1TB external hard drive and have had problems with my computer recognising it (I am running XP Pro). When I first installed it I ran the enclosed Arcsoft backup software to back up the files on my computer. After I did that my computer would give me the 'drive not formatted' error any time I tried to access the external (drive F). I had a tech friend look at it and he re-formatted the Simpletech hard drive.

I copied all my picture/music files over to the F drive and even designated it as the default for when I upload my camera. Shortly after I again received the 'drive not formatted' error which lasted for a few days. Now the computer alternates between giving me the 'drive not formatted' error or continually thinking that I have just plugged in a new drive and running the 'Autoplay' followed by the 'New Volume' window asking what I would like to to with the files on the F drive.

I do not know what could be causing these errors, we shut the computer down every night and completely turn off all power via a power bar.

I had a very similar problem. It turned out to be a faulty case.

If the drive was formatted, there is a very good chance you've destroyed your data and may need professional services to recover the files (if possible)

Chances are you just needed to replace the external case by removing the harddrive from the simpletech case and installing it in a new case.

But again, if the drive's been formatted, it may have wiped out your data.

Hi, my ps3 won't recognise my 1tb wd external hard

The problem with the new 1Tb WD Passport that I just purchased is that it is a USB 3.0 format and apparently PS3 doesn't recognize that speed.

Haven't found a workaround for it yet, but all these people advising you to reormat anew Passport drive are wasting your time.

Cannot get computer to recognize my simpletech external hard drive. I have windows 7

A problem I commonly have is if the external drive is plugged in to a non powered usb hub the unit does not have enough power and will not be recognised, ensure it is plugged directly into the pc tower or if you have a laptop try an alternate usb port as some may not be powered.

I have a SimpleTech SimpleDrive 1TB just got it last month. I went to plug it in and light comes on but I can't find it under computer. How do I find it?

Are you trying to connect using USB or eSata. In either case try connecting the drive with the computer OFF. Boot, then look under MyComputer - Properties - Mangage - Disk Management to see if the drive is recognised.

I have a simpletech pininfarina 500 external hard-drive and cant find driver software online to install it.computer also doesnt recognise it

I have found a driver page of simpletech:
http://www.simpletech.com/support/support_downloads.php
I believe that driver for your model is not available in the above link.
The drive would not be recognized when it is not compatible with your notebook hard disk.
I suggest you to contact simpletech for getting the drivers as they will have the hard disk drivers.
