The USB can be used to transfer pictures and videos from the camera to a computer.

However,I'd suggest not using it at all. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

SOURCE: Sony cyber-shot DSC-S500

If you open the camera up, whick I know is an intricate task, and take the screen down but don't unplug it, at the right bottom their is something that resembles a watch battery, if you can figure out how to get it off and find a replacement it will be fixed... This battery serves a a sort of memory power, even though you have batteries, this battery keeps the memory for the camera's software, so inturn without it the camera is dead in the water. this is fixable!

SOURCE: How do U upload photosfrom my computer to my sony cyber shot DSC-S500

I'm not sure that you can upload photos from the computer to the camera. i have never seen a camera you could do that with. The only way you might be able to do it is if you are using a sony memory card in your camera and you took the memory card out of the camera and put it in a memory card reader connected to your computer. Put the photos from your computer on to your memory card and then put the memory card back in the camera.

SOURCE: Is the camera sony cyber shot dsc s500 a webcam?

It's not a webcam. It was designed to store images (and videos) to memory, not to stream them live to another device.

Do i use usb to charge sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S500?

No. The DSC-S500 uses standard AA batteries, either disposable alkalines or rechargeable NiMHs. If you use rechargeables, they must be charged outside the camera using a separate charger.

What is the best battery use in Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S500

The choice is up to you. The camera will take more photos on a set of alkalines than on one charge of NiMHs, and alkalines are cheaper. However the NiMHs can be recharged and used again, while alkalines are one-use.
