I am having a problem with my 170K BTU unit. The bearing went out and I replaced it. At the same time the unit is spraying fuel but won't light/ignite. We are in the middle of an artic front and I need...

Remove the top and turn the heater on. Look for the igniter and make sure it is working. I don't know which type you have, but it could be the spark plug type or may be a HSI (hot surface igniter which will just glow until the heater starts). If the igniter isn't working, you may need to clean the sparkplug and set the gap. You can also check the transformer for the igniter. If it is the HSI type make sure it isn't broken off. Also check the flame sensor.

I HAVE A DAYTON 3VE49 TURN IT ON FAN RUNS GETS SPARK BUT IT SEEMS TO NOT BE GETTING FUEL I HAVE TO BLOW AIR THRU THE FAN PUMP HOSE TO FORCE THE FUEL TO THE SPARK I CHECKED THE LINES CLEAR THE PROP INSIDE...

Check the fuel lines and the nozzle. Make sure there are no leaks from the air/fuel lines at the nozzle fittings or air pump. The air pressure from the pump is no where near what you forced to the nozzle with an air compressor. You can push fuel past a plugged nozzle to get it to fire with your compressor, but the air pump can not even if it's new. Check the lines for leaks with soapy water. take off the nozzle and clean it to be sure it isn't plugged. Dont loose the spring inside to nozzle. Check the pressure at the pump testing port. You can buy a gage as descibed below at an ATV dealer. use a valve stem with 1/4 threaded end and a shrader valve at the other to adapt this for testing. Extra low pressure pencil-type gauge registers 1-20 psi in 1/2 lb. units. Do not use a standard tire gage, They are not accurate at low pressures.

Good Luck

Runs for short period and shuts off

bruce how658,

You have a classic reddy heater problem. Actually reddy heat and dayton are the same. They have a fuel pump which is dependent upon the pressure of the air filter to maintain exactly 4.5 psi or your unit will do what you describe. This is an easy fix and I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4124129-yearly_maintenance_reddy_heaters which explains the problem, where to get the parts and how to do the repair.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.
