Re: Dryer won't start
Belts, as in 2?? you do have an old speed queen. did you make sure the blower is able to turn freely? if so then you most likely have a bad winding in the motor. it is costly to replace and you should go out and get a new dryer. too much money to fix this old unit. by the way the model number is under the front panel in the center, on a metal plate. doesnt matter since you know its 25 years old and its time to update.

try turning the drum by hand both ways, it will turn hard, but it should turn, if it doesn't, then you have something caught in the blower wheel. If it does turn, close the door and try to start it again. Hope this helps!
Dryer door does not think it is closed. There is a sensor on the top of the door that is probably not making contact with the door. Trying pushing the top part of the door and holding it then press the start button.. if the unit starts running then you know what it is. I just had one of these dryers delivered today and had to find out about this by myself tonight!!
hello is the door making the switch if thats ok check wires see if they are loose if thats ok . at the bottom of the dryer next to the motor theres a part called a capacitor its got 2 wires coming off it. this can stop the dryer working.i hope its works
disconnect power and remove lid. Test the door switch w a volt meter do so opening and closing the door not pushing switch if circuit stays open try pushing switch with finger. If pushing closes circuit then adjust switch. If circuit stays open replace switch. If switch operates with no problems then it is the motor. Check all connections and vacuum lint from motor How old is this dryer?
rollers and or felts are cheap,
much cheaper than a new dryer,
and nobody now makes a dryer that will last 25 years.
I have maytags 1972, 1974, kenmore 1968, speed queen 1980,
in each apartment building used by 11 families, to keep them running costs peanuts
new dryers?, - 3 years is all you get before the $$$ starts
