No USB mode in Settings menu c250

I bought a used c250. No manual. Am trying to update firmware or whatever because can't download audiobooks from my local library (which is why purchased unit) and everyone on this site says change mode. My Settings menu does not have a USB Mode or Mode option. I've got Equalizer, Power, Display, Language, FM Settings, Volume, System Info, Reset All, Format. Help!

Tarah34, I'm sorry, I am not good with computers. Device is attached to computer, open up Windows Media Player, and nothing seems to happen regarding an update. Can you be a little more specific? I would greatly appreciate it.

I had the same problem. Firmware updater would not work because player was 'stuck' in MTP mode and displayed no USB menu option because of firmware update 01.01.05P. The way I updated my firmware to version 01.01.07P was by using Windows Media Player, which is designed to interface to the player in MTP mode. After doing that (Media Player prompts the user on updating firmware plus you have the option to install the user manual), the USB menu option became visible and functional, and I was able to select MSC mode.

When MANUALLY installing firmware:
Check the version of your player to have the matching firmware download for the player, as described in the updating firmware link.

Going to the Sandisk forum site for the Clip firmware download:
http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=clip&thread.id=15109
Note: read the instructions how to perform the firmware update.
1. Choose the correct version for the player.
2. Connection mode in Windows should be automatic, when not recognized in Windows or with MAC and Linux use MSC mode ***** .
3. Extract the zip file on the computer first.
4. Next put the unzipped file on the player in the root directory.
5. Disconnect the player.
6. Restart the player: the firmware update should restart now.

*****Note:
Switching to MSC mode for Sansa Clip:

Method 1: through the menu
1. From the Main Menu, select Settings > USB Mode.
2. Select Auto Detect, MTP or MSC.
Method 2: forcing, using the buttons / switches
1. Turn device OFF.
2. Slide the Hold switch down to Lock (orange color showing).
