Seems as though some resistors on the board have a problem with heat and the solder joints fail. So long story short... three screws, a soldering iron and about 15 mins each
I love Kenwood but would recommend this one to anybody. Don't bother buying another one because the same thing will happen. I GUARANTEE IT!

The solder joints in a stero are very difficult to work with do to their small size, i would check with the factory to see if it is still under warranty and if not , what they would charge for repair.

IM not sure if any 3rd party would have a wiring schematic for a head unit like that probably only kenwood could provide you with that.

The problem is not the faceplate for any of you, it is inside the main unit. If you know how to solder, you can fix is very easy. First take the top off the unit, there is 1 screw in the back middle. Then take the CD player out. It has 2 screws holding it in at the front corners at the bottom of the CD deck. Use a number 2 phillips and take out the gold screws holding the CD deck in place. Then you can pull out the CD deck, and be careful not to damage the ribbon cable connected from the CD deck to the main board. The deck can just sit up and over to the left to get it out of the way for what needs to be soldered.
Look inside the main unit on the board and you will see in the front right corner a series of surface mount resistors all connected in series. Just reflow that solder on them with a small amount of new solder added and the display will once again work perfectly. That solder is very heat stressed, that is the problem. I have fixed dozens of these over the last few years. Make sure you put it back together the same as it came apart, and you are done.

Hello I have the KDC MP632U and I need help on how to turn the aux on since my display faceplate does not work

well you can actually get your display working again in under 15 minutes with a soldering iron.(i know not exactly what you asked, but a more effective solution if you still have this stereo). take the deck out, remove the three screws holding the metal casing on. carefully move the cd player back an inch or two (make sure you don't pull out the ribbon cable for the cd by accident or unclip it if you know how) on the right side of the board you will see a 'chain' of resistors/ little black rectangles with R27 on them. resolder the ends of each one, either just remelt the solder that is there, or get the very fine electronics solder and add a bit on each spot. i am a lady and i did this today in about 15 minutes, and now my display works, so it is not too hard. i did get my hubby to remove the deck from the truck for me though :-)

My faceplate does not show display on my Kenwood kdc-mp632u. The lights work and the head unit in general plays the radio and cd's ect. now I have read somewhere that there are resistors inside so that...

I had the same problem and I resoldered the resistors on the board inside the stereo and it worked. Unscrew and remove the top cover and the CD slot. There are 10 of them located on the lower right side of the board. Good luck.

My display is out. unit works otherwise

you probably have bad solder connections on some surface mount resistors inside the radio itself.

I have a kdc mp632u and i cant get any sound out of my subwoofers. The amp comes on and there is power to the amp but still no sound. can someone tell step by step what i have to do to get it to work with...

Hello,

First, make sure that the RCA's from the HU to your amp are properly connected, and fully seated on both ends. There are 2 sets of outputs. You should be using the ones on the left as you face the rear of the HU. Here is a link to the manual. Page 40 shows the connections on the back:

http://inform3.kenwoodusa.com/manuals/KDCX590.pdf

After making sure that everything is connected OK, check to see if you have the subwoofer output turned on your MP632U.

To do this, push the control knob on the right toward AM (toward the bottom). Subwoofer output switches off/on each time you push it. When it is on, the display reads "SW ON".

If this does not solve the problem, you most likely have a defect in either the HU or the amp.

Hope this helps! If it does, please rate as "FixYa." Thanks!

No display on my kenwood kdc-mp532u

I read up on this and saw Tech48's post related to a different model. He's the one who deserves the credit. I'm just the rookie who has the soldering iron. However, here's a picture of the 5 resistors that you need to reflow and "top up"

My model is the KDC-MP532U (same as the 532, but with the USB option).

Here's the overall view. The CD-Player is standing on its edge at the bottom. The resistors are on the bottom right by the brass screw post.

...and here's a close up of the board and the resistors....

Hope it helps. Thanks Tech48!!!! It's like I've got a new stereo!!
