Whirlpool GEW9200LW0 Not heating

I have a Whirlpool Duet, Model # GEW9200LW0 that does everything but the heating element is not getting hot. Is there a way to verify the element is bad? And how do I replace it?

Hi
You need to remove the back panel first then with a multi meter the easiest way is to put the meter on continuaty test (beeps when contact is made then with the dryer switched of and unplugged put one probe on the one side of the element and the other on the other side if it beeps then your element should be ok if not one of two things (1) Your element is blown or (2) there should be a fuse around the area of the back support plate it may be a normal round fuse or a ceramic round fuse or what looks like a brown rectangular piece of plastic with a wire out each side test the fuse in the same way as you tested the element if blown replace if not then put in a element.

You changed all these bits without establishing whether the element was faulty? Find a local appliance engineer.

Electric Dryer Does Not Heat
  • If your Whirlpool electric dryer is having trouble heating, you should check all of the thermostats, the thermal cut-off, all fuses and the electric heating element for continuity and proper connection.

Whirpool duet dryer mod GEW9200LW0, working but not heating up

If it's starting and not heating it's usually one of two things. Take off the bottom panel. 2 screws hold it in place. If you have a way to check the element with a meter or something that would be ideal. It should read about a short circuit. The other part that goes out a lot is the thermal fuse located in the front on a pipe it's long and narrow. Here is a link to show where things are in there. Whirlpool Duet Dryer is scorching clothes

there is a sensor in the exhaust line in the dryer, near the motor. this tells the heating element to shut off when it gets to a certain temp, either during reg cycle or if the exhaust gets clogged, it is meant as a safety measure, but it sounds like yours is bad so the heating element never shuts off. it is not an expensive part and easy to replace
