Question about Kitchen Ranges

Open Question

Hey Folks! I'm working with a Rheem IX Classic Heat Pump, Model #RPFB-024JAS. The apartment has an older Robertshaw thermostat that is in need of an upgrade. The owner purchased an HAI Omnistat 2 thermostat. I've installed a few of these before without any problems. This Heat Pump seems to be wired strangely. On the old thermostat the Yellow wire passes through Y into W. The white into "B". Fan into G, red to red...etc. The yellow wire is throwing me. Any suggestions or a possible link to a wiring diagram for the unit? Thanks!

SOURCE: how to wire hunter 44155

Go to the hunter web site. They will have the proper wiring diagrams on the site. If you cannot do that pick up a basic wiring book at your local electric parts supplier. the place you got the thermostat would be a good start. I do know that menards has some books in the electric area that would be a great help to you. You also will need to be sure that the thermostat is able to handle both air and heat. many only do heat. If this does not help let me know and I will try and get more information to you

SOURCE: heat strip install

What color wire is connected to the "Y" terminal on the thermostat.
If the unit you are connecting is a heat pump A/C unit the orange wire is for the heating mode. Normally the "Y" terminal on the thermostat. "R" terminal on the thermostat is the power to the thermostat, "W" terminal is for heating, "Y" is for cooling, and "G" terminal is for fan operation. At the condensing unit for cooling the brown and yellow wires would normally be for the cooling.

I have a older Carrier heat pump, model 38YKC060. Does anyone know how cold it will continue to work at?

Heat pumps are of little or no value at temps around 40 degrees or below. And if you use the strips it will cost a small fortune if you have relatively high electric rates as most folks do.

Will a th5000 work with a ruud dual fuel

Are you talking about a pro 5000 Thermostat??? if so then NO it will not work. With this stat you do not have a temperature lock on the heat pump. Say you don't want the heat pump to run below 25 degrees. it won't shut the heat pump. And you don't want the heat pump to run at the same time as the furnace. With the Pro 8000 3 heat and 2 cool thermostat you can lock out the heat pump at 25 degrees outside an turn the furnace on. You will have to install an outdoor thermostat hooked up to the pro 8000 it usually comes with the stat. Honeywell products.

if this is indeed a heat pump you rthermostat should also have a emergency heat setting does it work on that setting... a heat pump on heat wuns the outside unit and has a recersing valve that changes the refigerant flow ..is the outside runnignduring heat mode... if you turn the thermostat in emergency heat the outside should shut down and indoor heat should come on...of this is not happening you have a wiring issue if both are not working... braeburn thermostats usually have behind the cover dip switches... i am not exactly sure what model this is but if indeed a heat pump the thermostat should have a r,w2,y,e,g,c,o,and b terminal... rheem wiring should be as follows
red to r white to w2 , g=green , yellow to y terminal there should be a wire hooked to the b terminal usually brown sometimes orange on the b terminal that is your reversing valve terminal.
you are going to have to make sure the thermostat is configured to energize the b termianl and will have to go into the installer setup to do this...hopefully you still have the paper work on thermostat... most heat pumps use the o terminal for reversing valve but rheem uses the b terminal
hope this helps out some repost with anymore probs...also make sure the switches are set to electric or gas whatever you have heat pump or not etc. inside thermostat
