The problem is with your motor coupling. The motor coupling sits between the motor and the transmission and is what connects the two so it will spin. This go bad and break with age and with over loading. It is an easy and cheap repair. They cost around 20 dollars at your local appliance repair shop and are almost always on hand as they are common. To change it simply unplug the washer and tip it back. The pump will be the first thing you see, just remove the two black clips on the pump and push it out of the way. Don't take the hoses off the pump or you will have water everywhere. Next is the motor. Unhook the wire harness connected to it. There are two clamp on the motor connected by 4 screws, (two on each). Remove the screws and then with a flat head screw driver pop off the clamps. When you take off the first clamp you will want to be holding the motor as it is going to drop. Careful not to smash your fingers. The motor coupling is going to fall off with it, probably in pieces. Put your new one on, it only goes on one way, and put everything back together again. You will be back to good as new in no time. Let me know if you have any other questions and let me know if this was helpful. Good luck and glad I could help.

If it agitates fine , with normal noise , drains with lid closed , then the problem is probably the transmission .

My Kenmore 80 series washer just started making a loud Aihaiha electrical or motor type noise. This happened during a heavy load cycle. Noise was very loud. When I click to regular, delicate or hand wash....

The following are the reasons for the drum not spinning :-
* Test the lid switch
* Test the timer control
* Test the centrifugal switch
* Test the water level switch
* Inspect the motor coupler
* Inspect the drive belt (belt drive only)
* Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)
* Test the motor
* Inspect the pulley
* Test the transmission

In the case of loud noises in the machine, the drum bearings might have been damaged and might need a replacement. Also do check the leveling of the machine. Good luck.

Washer makes noise during spin cycle, wont agitate

Sounds like your transmission is going out. Yes washing machines do have transmissions, I know, strange huh? Anyway, the transmission is connected to your motor and the motor makes it spin and agitate. The transmission goes up into the tub and is basically the agitator. When the gears go bad in it, it will start making a loud noise almost like a grinding noise and won't spin properly or agitate. It is expensive to fix, almost as much as a new washer. Your best bet is to buy a new machine unless you can find a good deal on a refurbished transmission. Those will sometimes run only around 150 dollars. A new one though will cost you around 250. You might be able to find a good deal though. They are easy to fix, I myself replaced one in 15 minutes once when I was still a repair man for Sears. So, check out some prices and see what the best way to go is for you. If you have any questions about installing it let me know and I can give you an easy step by step walk through on it. I hope this helps you out and good luck.

Sounds like you have a broken motor coupler. They are inexpensive. Can be a little tough to replace but I can walk you through it. You can purchase a coupler here.

Kenmore series 80 washer makes loud knocking noise during spin cy

Unless your front loader is set firmly on concrete and leveled to perfection, the force of a heavy wash load spinning in excess of 1000rpm will create a bit of vibration and noise.A firm footing is your best defense against to much movement.
Also due to the earlier movements during the spin cycle, the shocks that are used to dampen the spin cycle might have been broken or damaged.
If the problem persists inspite of proper levelling, please do check for the shocks or might have them replaced them for good.
