The phone code is DELL# (3355#)

Receive a Fax Manually - from page 57 of the manual.
1 Make sure your printer is on, and an active telephone line is connected to the FAX
connector ( — left side connector) on the printer.
2 Make sure the Auto Answer feature has been turned off.
a On the main screen in Fax mode, use the up and down Arrow buttons to scroll
to Auto Answer.
b Using the left and right Arrow buttons choose No or Scheduled and press
Select .
c If you selected Scheduled, the Auto Answer Schedule screen appears. Using the
keypad, specify the time you want Auto Answer to be turned on and be turned off.
d Press Select .
3 When the printer rings, pick up the telephone, and listen for the fax calling tone.
4 Press DELL# (3355#) on the printer operator panel.
NOTE: DELL# is the default answer code. However, you can change this to any four-digit code. For
more information about changing this code, see "Changing the Pickup Code" on page 71.

Fax Problems
When you have trouble sending or receiving faxes, try these things to fix the problem.
PRINTER WON’T PRINT AND PRINT JOBS ARE STUCK IN PRINT QUEUE.
Print jobs may be stuck in the print queue if you have multiple instances of your Dell printer installed
on your computer. To check for multiple entries of the printer:
1 In Windows XP, click StartControl PanelPrinters and Other HardwarePrinters and Faxes.
In Windows 2000, click StartSettingsPrinters.
2 Check for multiple printer objects for your Dell printer, which might be shown as Dell 964, Dell 964
(Copy 1)
, Dell 964 (Copy 2), and so on.
3 Print a job to each one of these print objects to see which print object is active.
4 Set the active print object as the default printer by right-clicking it in the Printers and Faxes window.
5 Delete the other copies of the print object by right-clicking each and selecting Delete.
NOTE: Be careful not to delete any printers you still want to use. If you accidentally delete a printer
that you want to use, reinstall it using the CD or web drivers for that specific printer. To prevent multiple
instances of your Dell printer in your Printers and Faxes folder, make sure when disconnecting and
reconnecting the printer from your computer’s USB connector that you always plug the USB cable back
into the same USB connector that was originally used for the Dell printer. Also, do not install the Dell
printer drivers multiple times from your printer CD.
MAKE SURE YOU TURNED ON BOTH YOUR PRINTER AND YOUR COMPUTER, AND THE USB
CABLE IS PROPERLY CONNECTED.
MAKE SURE AN ACTIVE TELEPHONE LINE IS CONNECTED TO THE FAX CONNECTOR (
—LEFT SIDE CONNECTOR) ON THE BACK OF YOUR PRINTER.

MAKE SURE THE FAX NUMBER, COUNTRY CODE, AND DATE/TIME ARE SET CORRECTLY.

MAKE SURE THAT IF YOU ARE USING A DSL OR ISDN LINE, YOU ARE USING A DIGITAL

LINE FILTER ON THE TELEPHONE LINE CONNECTING YOUR WALL JACK TO THE WALL.

MAKE SURE THE TELEPHONE LINE IS NOT IN USE BY ANOTHER DEVICE SUCH AS A

DIAL-UP MODEM INTERNET SERVICE. IF IT IS, WAIT UNTIL THE OTHER DEVICE IS

    FINISHED BEFORE SENDING YOUR FAX.

MAKE SURE THE ORIGINAL DOCUMENT IS LOADED CORRECTLY (FACE DOWN IN THE BACK

LEFT CORNER OF THE SCANNER GLASS OR TEXT-SIDE UP ON THE ADF) AND THE PAPER

IS LOADED CORRECTLY (FOR HELP, SEE "LOAD PLAIN PAPER INTO THE PAPER SUPPORT"

    ON PAGE 22).

MAKE SURE THE PRINTER DOESN’T HAVE A PAPER JAM. IF IT DOES, SEE "CHECK FOR A

    PAPER JAM." ON PAGE 94.

MAKE SURE THE MEMORY IS NOT FULL. DIAL THE RECEIVING NUMBER FIRST, AND

THEN SCAN YOUR ORIGINAL DOCUMENT ONE PAGE AT A TIME.

MAKE SURE THE POWER SUPPLY, TELEPHONE, HANDSET, AND ANSWERING MACHINE

    CONNECTIONS ARE SECURE.

MAKE SURE THE SPEED DIAL IS SET CORRECTLY.

MAKE SURE THE PRINTER DETECTS THE DIAL TONE.

    Good Luck

My Dell 3115cn printer will not connect to the network (it still works on USB cable), hard to believe it's broken, so can the printer system be reset?

Try turning off the printer and disconnecting power plug from wall. Hold power on button for about a minute. Then replug unit and turn power on - it should then attempt to hook up to your existing network.

If no go, try reinstalling the software that initially came with printer and was used to set up the network

I have no information on this fault. I suggest you contact the manufacturer directly with the question, but really doubt it will be something you can fix yourself.

HOW DO I un-lock the scanner on a Brother MFC 7420?

Unfortunately, the MFC-7420 doesn't have a physical lock switch. You need to turn off the all-in-one and wait for the unit to clear its memory. If the error recurs after you press the power button again, wait 30 minutes and try again. (Note: you will lose any faxes that are in memory. See the User Guide page 11-5 to save this information.) You can find the manual on the Brother support page for the MFC-7420: https://www.brother-usa.com/support/ModelInfo.aspx?R3ModelID=MFC7420 . Click on the Manuals & Documents tab. Then click on the Manuals on our Online Solution Center for the English version of the manual. The direct link to the User Guide is currently: http://download.brother.com/welcome/doc000387/ALLFB_UsaEngUsr_B.pdf .

You can also try unplugging the all-in-one for several minutes to reset the error codes. If the error persists, contact Brother if the MFC-7420 is still under warranty (1 year). If it isn't under warranty, consider replacing the unit. The repair costs may be unreasonable.

I hope this helps.

Prinnter not printing but showing 'put custom in manual tray'

There is still a print job in the queue. Place a sheet so it prints or kill the job.

Open Printers and Faxes. Open printer. Highlight jobs and Right click > Cancel, or Documents > Cancel.
For those stubborn jobs, Right click My Computer > Manage. Choose Services and Applications > Services > Print Spooler. Right click and stop. Then start. This may have to be done from the Print Server if it's network printer. Contact IT to kill.

My fax wont work in my ricoh aficio 1515 mf??

Using the 1515 as a fax machine is a pretty simple procedure if everything works right. All you have to do is hook a working phone line up to the phone jack on the back of the copier (the one labeled LINE, not TEL).

Why won't the fax work? If it is giving you an error message, what is the message?

If you are not getting a dial tone when faxing, unplug the fax from the phone line and plug a working phone in, and see if the phone gets a dial tone. If it doesn't, there is a problem with your phone line.

You can also try plugging the fax machine into another phone line. If the fax works on that line, then there may be a problem with the first line.

Are you having problems sending faxes or receiving them, or both?
