If you've already tried turning up the brightness of the screen (the "sun" icon), then you may have a problem with the backlight (possibly burnt out, in which case you'd need a new backlight bulb). See this post for more details: How do fix my Macbook dark screen
Yes. It's the F2 key, right above the 2 key.
With certain (rather unusual) Peferences settings, you have to hold down the fn key on the lower left corner of your keyboard for the Fkeys to have their ordinary effect.
This could be a backlight issue, a board issue or an inverter issue. Look at the screen closely, if there is a faint image it's either a backlight issue or inverter issue. To weed out between the two you can just order on inverter, they're 20 bucks on ebay, if that doesn't work, replace the backlight. Backlight repairs are somewhat difficult. As much as I would like to be able to tell you a quickfix that will solve backlight the problem, you'll most likely have to google for guides that show you exactly how to replace the backlight or bring it in for repairs.I work for Mac Repair NYC and i have to fix this problem a lot.
