I gave up and got the port replicator back. Finding drivers for the com port and an old keyboard was next to impossible without knowing exactly where to look for them. The bulk of the drivers I could find on the net were for newer PCs, newer keyboards or different equipment entirely. I guess it's all about selling new equipment and nobody cares about making laptops compatible with old peripheral devices. Without a PS2 port on the back, you either have to buy the port replicator or a USB or wireless keyboard. FYI, the original question was posted athttp://www.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prd...

Sorry I did post but I'm sure you were already in bed. I was doing some reformatting and that takes a while.

Ellen, Ellen, Ellen,...............if I've told you once, I've told you..........

OH, I'M JUST KIDDING!

(Ellen?............................Ellen?.....................darn!)

This = Not good.
Most of the time you are looking at motherboard replacement.
However I have read a few 'tricks', and believe this may help you,

http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2009/11/17/fix-broken-keyboard-connector-on-laptop-motherboard/

We're talking STICKY tape here. Not Christmas wrapping present tape.
More like the stuff the Post Office uses.

The kind that NEVER comes off! (Or so it seems, lol!)

What is sata?

SATA is Serial ATA.

The version before it is PATA. Parallel ATA.
Also known as IDE, or EIDE.

IDE (PATA),

SATA,

At the back of the computer tower, or up on the side/top, is the white Service Tag.
In it is the Product Number. P/N

It also contains the Serial Number. S/N
(NEVER divulge the Serial Number on a worldwide forum)

Put the Product Number, or the Serial Number in the appropriate box, and then click on the side arrow to the right of the box.

The Part Numbers are also molded into each part.

Need to reconnect my keyboard to the circuit board but the webbing is too short to get my hands into fix it?

Now THAT'S a short Keyboard Cable!

What manufacturer and Model Number of Notebook PC (Laptop) is this?

In this instance I would use a tool to ease the connector into place.
Long handled bent nose needle nose pliers.

Example,

http://www.tooltopia.com/k-tool-international-51206.aspx?utm_source=pricegrabber&utm_medium=cse&utm_term=KTI51206&utm_campaign=pricegrabber_r1

If you cannot reinstall with these babies you have the wrong Keyboard.

I hae a compaq 9010 laptop and the on off button has come unclipped from under the keyboard. anyone kow how to lift the keyboard up.

Above the Keyboard, and directly under the LCD screen is the Keyboard Cover. This cover contains the various LED lights, and Power On button.

1) ALL power to the laptop is removed. The AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

2) Two Philips head screws are removed from the back of the laptop, which fasten the hinge cover portion of the Keyboard Cover to the laptop.

3) A thin flat-bladed screwdriver is used to gently pop the Keyboard Cover up.

On the Right and Left sides of the Keyboard Cover, and also the middle, (Side towards the Keyboard), a small flat-tipped screwdriver is used to gently pry the Keyboard Cover up.

Use care so as to not damage the plastics, nor the wireless antenna.

This is the download page for the Service Manual,

Under the Service Information heading click on - Service Manual
This is a PDF file. Allow time for the first page to come up, and additional time may be needed for the file to fully download.
