Purchased new in 2002, Superbowl of 2004 a problem began. The problem is horizontal lines and very blurry, unable to see picture at all, kind of like crossing your eyes plus horiz lines. 3 different times in the following 2 years had tech come out and inspect never could find a problem, and problem corrected itself before they showed up, kinda like a knock in a car at the mechanic. Meanwhile 4th time it happened I was angry and hit the tv with fist on top and it fixed. So since it would happen maybe once every 3 months for about the next 2 yrs, pound on the top and fixed it, no big deal. I did have a convergence issue in that time frame, had tech fix it, but he had never heard of what we described. Now I have put in hardwood floors and the TV does this maybe 5-10 times a night. And have noticed it tends to happen based on noise- tv loud or sport events (like crowd cheering loud or suddenly) or party with alot of noise, tv does it ALOT. This makes me think its like a certain noise frequency thing and lack of cushioning that the carpet provides, like something is rattling causeing this. So I have added some cushions under the tv, probably more than carpet and carpet pad would have. The hit to the top of tv still fixes or throwing a soft ball at the screen. Sometimes here a loud pop lilke the wood settling in the tv and it will happen??? Sorry this was so long, oh yea if i can get that fixed I need a new plastic screen on the front(i didnt have my soft ball and threw a remote on Saturday, so now i have 2 issues.)
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. goodluck!

This should be a menu option in the video portion or initial set up area of your menu. If you have auto converge it will do it for you otherwise it will put up a screen with color patterns for you to manually converge.
Ur tv have a problems known as a convergence problems,it dead.Tv have corlors R,G,B lines mis alignments, have colors shadows picture or 3D picture look alike?Yes.The tv convergence board is dead. The convergence board must change 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all of it resistors to fix the convergence board to solved the tv convergence picture problems. The shop will cost u like $300-350 for parts and labors.
I know this set very well---you are saying convergence adjusts ok everywhere? If you understand that the blue is usually de-focused a little----there are only two ways to adjust the focus of each tube-----
1.) Behind the front speaker grill there is an inspection plate---with it removed you will see a small black plastic block with 6 controls on it; it is the MASTER SCREEN/ FOCUS BLOCK
2.) THREE of the controls left to right are Screen controls(red, green and blue) and the other 3 are FOCUS--IT IS ALL black and you need to look close to identify which is focus and which is screen---you are looking for the BLUE focus control(one of the 6)
3.) With the convergence grid on screen cover the RED and GREEN lens in the set and try to adjust the focus of the blue(I presume you know how to put the set into the Convergence mode?
4.) The only other way to adjust the Blue focus is from the back of the set---with the Red and Green lens covered up place a blanket over the top of the set that covers the whole screen--from the back of the set you will note that all three of the black focal lens have a wing nut---with the convergence grid up and only blue lines present(Green and Red lens covered with a cloth) look from behind the set at the grid---loosen the wing nut on the blue lens and slowly slide the lens left or right until the blue has the best focus possible----if it will not adjust with the focal lens or the front focus control you have a circuit problem.

No there are no quick fix options for this fault. The convergence amplifiers operate similar to a high power audio amplifier, so if there is an impairment anywhere in the system, it will result in distorted audio, or in the case of television convergence amplifiers, a color won't align. The convergence power pacs need to be replaced and the out of tolerance precision resistors located near the power pacs need to be carefully checked and replaced as necessary.
It is also possible that there are root faults that cause the amplifiers to go bad which include bad connections or a bad digital control module. This repair is possible for anyone having basic electronics knowledge and soldering skills.
Same problem. Replaced both convergence ICs about 5 months ago. Worked fince since then and just recently no sound, no video, blinking red on front panel and clicking sound. I suspect that the ICs went bad again and blew a resistor or two. I used cheap Chinese ICs instead of the Sanyo ones and thing this is why. I'll be looking at it again and post solution.
