Question about Radio Shack Trc-481 Cb Radio
We have a TRC-481 CB Radio. No audio is coming out from the unit. It is receiving and transmitting, but just no audio is coming from the radio itself. Is this a speaker problem? Connection? Something I can fix, or trash the unit? Thanks.

Test the internal speaker to see that sound is indeed getting to it.Hook an external speaker to it and see if that works.you just may have to change the speaker but it could be more than that. Do thisfor now then repost as to what you did and whether it worked or not because there is more problems and they are internal. Just go with this for now and if it doesn't work you may have to get it to a tech to repair it.

First, use an ohm meter and test the power wires for continuity. If they test good then there is a protection diode on the board that is probably blown. If I remember right it is a 1N4001 diode. Generally you can see if its blown as it will either be burnt or look like its cracked. If it is you will need to replace that diode to restore power.

SOURCE: I have a TRC 502A
it could be grounded inside...Somebody may had it set for Talkback features.. Take it apart look for speaker wires (see if soldered to resistors) if its shorted seperate wires ..just have speakers wires attached. Try external SPKR. Try different mics or radio may have gone bad completely.
